Jess Mills first single ‘Live For What I’d Die For’ & live dates

‘Live For What I’d Die For’ is the first single from our newest star in the making, Jess Mills. Having signed to Island records earlier this year, Jess introduced us to her enticing solo material in April with her ‘Vultures EP’. This impressive package came complete with her cover of The Cure’s ‘A Forest’ and a heavyweight line up of remixes from MJ Cole, Nu:Tone and Photek. Also produced by Breakage, ‘Live for What I’d Die For’ goes further to illustrate Jess’s desire to combine classic song writing with her experiences and influences from her love of dance music, long summers spent in Ibiza and her many trips to the likes of Glastonbury from a very early age.Working together on her solo material, Jess and Breakage drew up a widescreen list of reference points that included The Cure, Portishead, Massive Attack and Radiohead – but knew from the start that Mills's songs would inevitably, absolutely, contain two feelings any seasoned club kid would understand on a cellular level: a sense of freedom and strong dose of euphoria. "I totally get the frenetic madness of raving and I wanted to apply that euphoric vibe to the songs – even though they're not out and out clubtracks. The goal for me is to lace that spirit of electronic music into traditional songs, while applying the more emotive elements of music I've loved all my life to create something that could hopefully resonate with people on lots of different levels."Remixes for this release will come from Mark Knight, Loadstarr, DJ Distance and new kids on the block, Disclosure. Ultimately Jess Mills makes music that connects on an emotional level and ‘Live For What I’d Die For’ certainly delivers. Her debut album is taking shape and she'll be spending the next few months sculpting and perfecting the powerful raw material into songs that will undoubtedly propel her into the mainstream. She also begins her foray into the live circuit with some choice solo sets at Lounge On The Farm and Lovebox festivals, as well as her continued appearances as part of Leftfield and Breakage’s live shows throughout the summer.
