Josh Osho ft. Ghostface Killah ‘Redemption Days’ Released: 25th July 2011

South Londoner Josh Osho is an inherently gifted singer songwriter who has one of the finest pop/soul voices to come out of the UK in years and a life-story packed full of the stuff that films are made of. Born to a half Northern Irish, half Nigerian mother and ex-boxer and musician stroke cultural educationalist father, Josh Osho has not only experienced more than your average teenager, but more than many people may do in a lifetime. Following an unconventional and often tempestuous childhood, Josh went from being in and out of home at the age of 16 and dealing drugs from notorious half-way house Ebenezer hotel at 17, to signing a record deal at 18, and finding himself recording in a studio with two members of the Wu Tang clan at 19. It may be a universal cliché to say someone has been saved from a darker route in life by music, but when it comes to Josh Osho this really is the case. Josh began writing songs from an early age, when one of his mum’s friends threw out a guitar and he started trying it out. A poetic way with words combined with a natural ear for melody (at home the family stereo played everything from traditional Irish folk to New Soul), meant that songwriting came easily, and by his early teens Josh was picking out his own compositions alongside finger perfect renditions of John Legend and Ben Harper songs. Around this time Josh did something that has been repeated by teenagers since time immemorial – he started falling out with his parents. Along with his older brother, there was a period where he’d leave home, then come back, then get thrown out... and so on. Josh started sleeping rough, dossing down where he could. Sometimes alone; sometimes with his brother. Perhaps his experiences during his time shaped the spiritual integrity and universal resonance that you’d expect from a songwriter twice Josh’s age, or perhaps he was always someone with an old head on young shoulders. Either way, Josh is a young man and artist who has come up the hard way and it is there for everyone to hear in his music. Among those to hear it first were Record Company co-president and A&R man Darcus Beese - who promptly signed Josh to Island records - and the legendary Ghostface Killah - who immediately reached out to Josh about guesting on what has now become Josh’s debut release, ‘Redemption Days’. RZA quickly followed suit, adding his personal touch to the project by remixing ‘Redemption Days’. A few sessions in the studio and one video shoot later and Wu Tang have now stepped up as the executive producers on Josh’s forthcoming debut album, L.I.F.E,
The ‘Redemption Days’ EP featuring Ghostface Killah and including remixes from RZA, Distance, Roni Size and Mensah will be released by Island records on July 25th 2011. CLICK HERE Check out the Redemption Days Video
“I usually don’t work with a lot of people, but my man Josh is in another lane….” Ghostface Killah.

Stephen Marley Album - “Revelation Pt 1: The Root of Life"

An acclaimed singer, songwriter, musician and producer, Stephen Marley is a five-star general in Jah Army’s ongoing offensive to uphold the integrity of reggae music. Stephen has won seven Grammy Awards for his work on various Marley family projects, including two Best Reggae Album Grammy nods for his self-produced solo efforts “Mind Control”, which debuted atop Billboard’s Reggae Album Chart, and “Mind Control Acoustic”, a record-setting tally for a Jamaican artist. The second son born to Bob and Rita Marley, younger brother to Sharon, Cedella and Ziggy and mentor to brothers Julian, Ky-mani and Damian, Stephen’s acceptance of the responsibilities inherent within his exalted familial legacy is evidenced by the consistent excellence that distinguishes his various musical endeavors. Stephen’s third self produced album “Revelation Pt 1: The Root of Life” (Ghetto Youths/Universal Republic), which will be released on May 24th, was conceived as a celebration and preservation conduit for roots rock reggae, insuring that the music’s regal template is maintained throughout the 21st century. Stephen achieves that objective with 14 soulful, often times soul-bearing tracks that never sacrifice rhythmic purity in deliverance of their powerful messages: “Revelation Pt 1: The Root of Life” provides encouragement for the struggling masses (“Working Ways”), depicts the harrowing residual effects of slavery (“Old Slaves”), evokes the sorrow of rejection (“She Knows Now”), and conveys the disappointment of “False Friends”, the gravity of these themes offset by exquisite melodies and the subtle shadings of their musical accompaniment, as coordinated by Stephen’s production expertise.

Jonathan Jeremiah releases his new Island single “Heart of Stone” on May 23rd & Live at London Bush Hall

Jonathan Jeremiah, whose timeless songs and soulful voice place him firmly in the tradition of classic Island artists like Nick Drake and John Martyn, and mark him out as a songwriter with a rare talent, releases his new Island single “Heart of Stone” on May 23rd. Jonathan who was recently invited by Rumer, a self-declared fan, to open for the Brit nominated singer at her recent Manchester show, will be playing his own headlining show at Bush Hall on May 31st. For ticket information please visit - Written and produced by Jeremiah, “Heart of Stone” is taken from the Londoner’s debut album “A Solitary Man” which has just been released to rave reviews. Jeremiah first came to prominence when he was invited to appear on Later with Jools a full five months before the release of his album, where he gave a stunning solo acoustic performance of one of the album’s many standouts “How Half-Heartedly We Behave”. A month long residency at the Borderline followed before he opened for Rumer at her Bloomsbury Theatre show. Jonathan Jeremiah’s music comes from a world far away from the quick fix, pre packaged production line. He has spent the best part of a decade defining a sound rooted in a rich legacy of bespoke English folk and confessional soul. Undoubtedly a major factor in the sound is Jonathans rich sonorous vocal. “When I was 14 my voice developed an incredible deep baritone. At the time it wasn’t the greatest thing, everyone wanted to sound like Jeff Buckley. I felt like a man out of place but in time, I embraced the baritone.” “A Solitary Man” was engineered and produced by Jonathan in an analogue studio in Dollis Hill and featured collaborators included The Heritage Orchestra, a young group of classical musicians attuned to his working methods, and Jules Buckley who handled all the string arrangements. Although the album has been a long time in the making it offers proof that sometimes the best things take time. With equal measures of hard headed determination and careful nurturing, Jonathan’s music is ready to be unveiled. The time to take his songs into your heart and soul is here.
“Cinematic grandeur… symphonic pop… opulent caressing baritone voice… in a league of his own” MOJO 4*
“Authentic, quietly folkish retro soul... genuinely affecting” Q
“rich, elegant, timeless” The Guardian
“a great voice singing great songs” The Sunday Times
“Jeremiah has one of those soulful voices that just oozes raw passion…A rare talent…think Ray LaMontagne meets John Martyn” The Sun
“Recalls Island thoroughbred John Martyn – or a more stately, more conventional Scott Walker. Like a male Rumer, he’s ably remaking the AOR template.” Uncut 4*
“Grandly elegant debut. Superbly tailored string arrangements, deeply commanding yet delicate vocal and artful guitar picking.” The Mirror 4*

California girl Dev to give UK something special with ‘Bass Down Low’

22-year-old DEV is pop’s hottest new temptress, a California girl of Mexican/Portuguese decent with low-dipping 808 sound that’s machine tooled for the clubs.“Bass Down Low” was produced by L.A. duo The Cataracs, who triangulated the space between trunk-rattling hip hop, pop and L.A. electro. The duo found DEV after she uploaded an Amy Winehouse cover onto YouTube which she had recorded on her MacBook at home. The boys went on to produce DEV’s breakout track “Booty Bounce” which has garnered over 1 million hits on YouTube. It was “Booty Bounce” that The Cataracs sampled for the hook on Far East Movement’s hit single “Like A G6” which got to #5 in the UK and sold 2 million downloads worldwide. So DEV introduced the world to the slang ‘slizzard’ for getting drunk while name checking Three 6 Mafia - turning the song into a veritable smash in the process. Now emerging as a solo artist “Bass Down Low” is only the beginning; her forthcoming debut 'The Night the Sun Came Up' is dropping this summer. She has already turned some influential heads with Tinie Tempah insisting he jump on the remix to give the UK something special. With “Bass Down Low” you’re rolling with pop’s most exciting new female.

Colbie Caillat First single “I Do” out May 30th followed by new album

Grammy Award winning, chart-topping SoCal singer songwriter Colbie Caillat will release “All Of You”, her highly anticipated third album on July 12th. Caillat wrote “All Of You” about her experiences the last few years, the most significant of which is her blossoming relationship with band mate Justin Young. “He was in my band for two years before we noticed that we liked each other,” Caillat says, laughing. “I wrote most of this album about us, our ups and downs. All the songs are about life experiences, so I guess this record is more grown up, with a somewhat wiser perspective.” On the new album, Caillat realised her long held dream of collaborating with rapper/film star Common who lends his rhymes to the infectious “Favorite Song”. Caillat wrote “Favorite Song” and “Brighter than the Sun” with Ryan Tedder and collaborated with Toby Gad, Jason Reeves, Rick Nowels, and Justin Young on the album. The first single from the new album, “I Do”, debuted at #1 on iTunes in the US, and is receiving Top 5 airplay in Europe. Caillat was the star performer on the TLC "Royal Wedding Event" and Live Broadcast in Times Square on Friday April 29. Colbie Caillat’s first album Coco debuted at No. 5 and raced its way past the multi-Platinum barrier. Her first single, “Bubbly,” caught a generation’s imagination and has become one of the best-selling digital tracks of all time. Billboard took note by naming Caillat its Breakthrough Artist of the Year. Fittingly, her second album Breakthrough broke at No. 1. Later that year, Caillat was honoured with four Grammy nominations and won two Grammys for her collaborations with Jason Mraz and Taylor Swift. Her embrace has stretched to include work for honourable causes including the Surfrider Foundation, Save the Music and the Humane Society, for which she has recently become a spokesperson.

Fully grown and ready to blow: that's CocknBullKid, 2011. New Album & Live Dates

CocknBullKid, one of the most acclaimed young British artists to emerge in recent years, is releasing her hotly anticipated debut album ‘Adulthood’ on May 23. The album, co-written by Anita alongside a host of talents including the eccentric, electronic piano man Gonzales, who worked on half the record, is a full functioning pop odyssey that looks set to soundtrack the summer of 2011. In addition to Chilly, there are a couple of songs from Peter, Björn and John’s Peter Morén, as well as a co-write each from Joseph 'Metronomy' Mount and former All Saint, and one of Anita’s hero’s Shaznay Lewis. The album was produced by Liam Howe (Marina and the Diamonds / ex- Sneaker Pimps). Adulthood was recorded in London, Paris and Stockholm and was put together in Howe's Dalston home studio, surrounded by vintage synths, and in the cosy confines of Snap Studios in North London. With this brilliant debut, CocknBullKid has emerged from a creative cocoon with a suite of bright, breezy and ultra-colourful pop songs that exist at least five giant leaps away from the savvy, autobiographical electro tunes like 'On My Own' that got her a slot on Jools Holland even before she signed to Island Records. "The music I made at first was cool, but it was work in progress. There was only so far I could take it. I knew I was capable of more. I wanted to make music that reached people further than E9, or whatever the cool postcode is now." It's been worth the wait. The 25 year old Hackney resident, aka Anita Blay, is in possession of the most interesting, credible pop record of the year. It is a joyful celebration of everything in Blay's life: the teenage depression; the colourful confusion of her Catholic-turned-Pentecostal upbringing; her Ghanaian uncles and their hi-life band in Accra; and her insistence that her songs should turn negative emotions into high-saturation pop songs that will turn the FM dial kaleidoscopic when they inevitably perform a massive ambush of the charts. ‘Adulthood’ has lush strings, twinkling marimbas, steel drums and a brass band and an insatiable appetite for incessant hooks. It sounds like Kate Bush, were she dancing on cloud nine and insisting that you dance too. "I knew I wanted the album to be really musical. Everything now is so minimal and I wanted to make something I could listen to in ten years time. I didn't go to a gig for a year, I didn't read music mags and I didn't listen to anything new. I plugged into The Buggles, Enya, The Beach Boys and The Polyphonic Spree and listened to how they created a sound. And that was it." Ask Blay about her influences and you're as likely to hear her talk about The Knife ("Deep Cuts was a revelation to me… really weird but really pop"); the entire 1983-1998 Madonna catalogue and Morrissey. "I will never fall out of love with Morrissey. He got me through those awful adolescent years and he could articulate things that a lot of people felt."

World of Owl City, Aligator Sky and ‘All Things Bright And Beautiful’

Adam Young has spent the best part of the last six months in peaceful hibernation, busy writing the second Owl City album, ‘All Things Bright And Beautiful’ which will be released on 17th May. The first single ‘Alligator Sky’, which features US rapper Shawn Chrystopher, rockets us back into the cosmic world of Owl City. “’Alligator’ and ‘sky’ are two words that don’t really go together, but conjure up an image, which fits the idea of the song,” Adam says. “It’s about how there are so many weird things coming at you every day. Why not just meet them head on and take charge even though you have no say over what’s going to happen? You and those around you are what matter most.” Owl City’s swift rise from the unknown into chart topping success saw his debut album - the lush, lovingly created ‘Ocean Eyes’, which was released by Island Records in February 2010 - certified gold or platinum in nine countries. The album spawned the quadruple-platinum first single ‘Fireflies’, which was a No. 1 smash hit in 24 countries including the UK (where it remained at the top spot for 3 weeks), and sold more than four million downloads. Its eye-popping success has made Owl City an international phenomenon, selling nearly 12 million tracks worldwide and amassing an impressive touring record in which Owl City sold-out headline tours and performed for besotted fans in the US, UK, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.

Introducing North London's Jess Mills

There’s a fair chance you’re already familiar with the sublime voice of North London girl Jess Mills since her vocals graced the recent Radio 1 A listed single ‘Fighting Fire’ by Breakage. Jess’s relationship with Breakage began on Leftfield’s recent comeback tour, where Jess was providing the vocals for the seminal dance act, and Breakage was the support. Bonding over a shared love of Radiohead, 90s drum’n’bass and Depeche Mode they decided to bunker down in James’ South London studio, the place where he’d recently crafted his now infamous remix of Clare Maguire. There Jess wrote and laid down the vocals for his club smash ‘Fighting Fire’. A track that left confused message board chatter over whether it was dub-step, trance or pop music, but that clearly united people on the dance-floor. Like Geoff Barrow’s first meeting with Beth Gibbons, there was magic in the air… And a pact was made to return the favour by producing some of Jess’ own solo material. The result is Vultures, the first track Breakage has ever produced for another artist. And one from which you could draw comparisons with the aforementioned Portishead duo, if they were making beats in South London in 2011. Quite simply, it’s a taster of what this pop star in the making has to offer with the backing of one of our most exciting producers and remixers in music today. Backed by a brilliant cover of ‘A Forest’ by The Cure, the Vultures complete package also includes remixes from Photek, nu:tone and MJ Cole.
