Upbeat new single, ‘Fell Into The River’ from Pete Lawrie

Pete Lawrie releases a new single, ‘Fell Into The River’, on the 31st January 2011 through Island Records. It is taken from the debut album, ‘A Little Brighter’ released on the 4th April 2011. The obvious pressure of being a hotly-tipped young artist for the coming year is something that Pete Lawrie hasn’t even considered. Confident and assured, the young Welshman soaks up the pressure and volleys it back in the shape of another soulful pop lament. The success of Pete’s limited edition EP at the tail-end of 2010, with lead-track ‘In The End’ being playlisted at national radio, and press acclaim suggesting that the next twelve months were Pete’s for the taking, has primed the now-London-resident for an exciting 2011. It’s not just these early recordings that have raised his profile so significantly, but a hefty touring schedule which started out at 2010’s festivals (Glastonbury, Isle of Wight, Radio 1’s One Big Weekend, Hop Farm, Belladrum, and Cardiff’s SWN), and has seen Pete perform to thousands of potential fans as support to Paolo Nutini, Corinne Bailey Rae, Rumer, and Amy Macdonald. It has led to his recent London headline shows selling-out, and the anticipation of a debut headline tour in the Spring almost palpable. Pete blames his parents for his idiosyncratic tastes in music and for the strength of passion in his songwriting. His mother plays the oboe in the Welsh opera, his father makes woodwind instruments, and his grandfather played on the original recording of ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ by The Beatles. ‘Fell Into The River’ is Pete Lawrie’s first single proper, and a joyous, acoustic-pop scorcher. It’s upbeat and jaunty in contrast with his gravel-toned, husky rasp of a voice, and it’s another expertly crafted indication of what to expect from Pete’s debut album, ‘A Little Brighter’ in April 2011.

Taio Cruz & Kylie Gonna Take You "Higher" February 14th 2011

Taio Cruz who has been dominating the UK and US singles charts with his two No.1 smashes “Break Your Heart” and “Dynamite”, joins forces with the undisputed first lady of pop Kylie Minogue on his new single “HIGHER”. The single will be released through 4th & Broadway Records on February 14th. Taio and Kylie recently met at a party in Paris hosted by legendary designer Roberto Cavalli. Both being huge fans of each other’s work, they started talking about doing a song together. Taio had been working on a brand new song called “Higher” and played it to Kylie on his iPhone. Within a matter of minutes they had booked a studio and recorded the track the very next day. This soon to be smash, as well as “Break Your Heart” and “Dynamite”, are featured on Taio’s new greatest hits album ”The Rokstarr Collection”. Following Taio’s staggering US success and due to the fact that his debut album “Departure” was never released Stateside, Universal combined the biggest hits from “Departure”, and recent album “Rokstarr”, to bring together in one hit-packed album the biggest smashes of Taio’s career. The sheer weight of hits on “The Rokstarr Collection” offers further proof that pound for pound Taio Cruz is right up there as one of the handful of guaranteed hit maker/ writer/artist/producers currently working in pop music.
The staggering US success is being mirrored across the globe with the success of both “Break Your Heart” and ”Dynamite” establishing Cruz as a bona-fide popstar in France, Canada, Mexico, Ireland, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, Norway, Finland, Belgium and Australia. This phenomenal achievement offers further proof, if proof were needed, that in Taio Cruz, the UK has its very own top–drawer artist/songwriter/producer who can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best that the world has to offer.

Tinchy Stryder new single ‘Gangsta?’ and ‘Let It Rain’

Following on from the phenomenon that is ‘Game Over’ Tinchy Stryder is gearing up for the release of his new single, double A-side, ‘Gangsta?’ and ‘Let It Rain’ scheduled for release on 24th January 2011. When Tinchy Stryder went into the studio with his friends to record ‘Game Over’ he knew it would be big. The album track, featuring a who’s who in the UK urban scene: Tinie Tempah, Chipmunk, Devlin, Giggs, Example and Professor Green, exploded with its exclusive first play on Tim Westwood’s Radio 1 Extra show, Zane Lowe followed crowning it Record of the Week on Radio 1 and the video amassed over a million views in under a week. Tinchy Stryder is now set for the next release, the double whammy, ‘Gangsta?/Let It Rain’. ‘Gangsta?’ showcases a harder edge to Stryder’s lyrical prowess and sound. Produced by Tinchy’s long term production partners TMS, the track plays on the difference between what it means to be ‘a gangsta’ and to be ‘gangster’. In contrast, uplifting ‘Let it Rain’, produced by Mancunian producer Nathan Retro (Giggs, JLS, Wiley) features Grammy nominated, Island Records label mate, Melanie Fiona. Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Melanie Fiona has toured with Kanye West and supported Alicia Keys on her 2010 Freedom Tour. On the single ‘Let It Rain’ Melanie’s soulful vocals soar alongside Tinchy’s tight lyrical delivery all underlined by a heavy bass, machine-gun drum sets, atmospheric chords and strings. 24-year old Ghanaian born and East London raised Kwasi Danqua aka Tinchy Stryder has come a long way since the 2007 release of his independently funded debut ‘Star In the Hood’. This year alone has seen Tinchy Stryder complete a second sold out headline tour in the UK, open the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury, launch the new range of his ever-expanding clothing label in JD Sports stores across the UK and start up Take Over Roc Nation with hip hop mogul Jay-Z, a 360 degree world-wide joint venture. Tinchy Stryder’s story continues to grow from strength to strength, chart topping artist, fashion entrepreneur and music industry mogul. ‘Gangsta?/Let It Rain’ will be his first single release of 2011.

Download Annie Lennox new single "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" from 20th December

Taken from Lennox’s acclaimed festive album ‘A Christmas Cornucopia’ available now through Island Records. Annie Lennox, one of the most successful, iconic and talented artists of the late 20th century releases the single ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’ just in time for Christmas on 20th December. ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’ is accompanied by a glorious video, which is a beautiful and magical illustration of the song and the Dickensian feel that is synonymous with it. Annie Lennox oversaw the creative of the video, using the iconic Angel outfit worn in the Eurythmics unforgettable ‘There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart) video from 1985. The video is available here to view:
One of the many highlights of the brand new festival album, ‘A Christmas Cornucopia’, this powerful rendition of the mid 18th Century traditional Christmas classic will fill our hearts and minds with joyful festive spirit as we all prepare ourselves for the inevitable last minute preparations for the big day. While many version of ‘God Rest Ye…’ exist, Lennox’s version is definitely one of the most charging and uplifting with it’s heavy use of percussion and world music instruments accompanying Lennox’s distinctive and powerful voice - it’s clear that Lennox’s version will be enjoyed for many Christmas’s to come. The new Annie Lennox album ‘A Christmas Cornucopia’ features 11 traditional Christmas songs alongside a new composition, the beautiful ‘Universal Child’. The Christmas themed songs include the classics, ‘ The First Noel’ and ‘Silent Night’, while also featuring the more rarer ‘Il Est Ne Le Devin Enfant’ and Lullay Lullay (Coventry Carol)’. In making the new album Annie Lennox wanted to reboot and re-energize these songs – some sacred, some secular, and all special. To strip away the varnish, the iconography, the (for want of a better word) religiosity. To restore the hymnal heart and soulful sentiment, in a manner that will appeal to listeners of all faiths, creeds and cultures. “Compassion, respect, understanding and tolerance should be at the heart of every religious faith. All too often it’s completely the opposite”. With her voice, with such sentiments, and with that passion and vision, Lennox has achieved her goal. It’s an album and idea she was, you might say, born to do – Annie Lennox’s birthday is 25th December!
WHAT THE PAPERS SAY"...there's a very different feeling expressed in this collection, with absolutely no corny sentiment or 'baby it's cold outside' warm-blanket platitudes found in most Christmas collections. " – Mojo
"Lennox's "Christmas Cornucopia" far from an exploitation item, it's one of the most deeply felt works of her career” NY Daily News
"often deeply touching" - The Guardian

"Body Talk" final album in Robyn's trilogy out soon + ‘Indestructible’ single

‘Body Talk’ is the third and final album in Robyn’s unique trilogy for 2010. Released on November 29 it will feature 5 of the best tracks from Pt 1 & 2 plus 5 extra brand-spanking new songs from the ridiculously prolific pop star. Releasing music in this way has been an almighty success for Robyn, as she explains: "I’m going to keep mixing up my tours with studio time and am hoping to stick to this new way of releasing music next year. This is the third, last part and completion of the Body Talk album. It was never my goal to break some kind of a world record in how many songs I could release in a year. Although I think it would count as a pretty good attempt, it’s been about the process for me. It’s been very interesting to try and figure out a more organic way of making music. A way that is unbiased and has it’s starting point in what feels logical to me, but also to the listeners. Even though it was never a conceptual idea, but a practical solution to the problem of getting bored with just doing one thing at a time, it has influenced not only the music, but all the visual content for the album as well. And the way I’ve communicated with press and listeners. It’s been amazing to share the process with you. As soon as I have had an idea of what I’m doing so have the fans and that interaction has been super interesting and fun to me. As I’m writing this, I am still mixing the third album. There are 5 new songs ready to be released and I’m also including music from Body talk pt 1 and 2 to complete this body of work in what will make the turbo version of the Body Talk album. Thanks for tagging along with me on this ride!"
Robyn, 2010 The exquisite song ‘Indestructible’ will round of her single releases for the year and is released on the same day. The acoustic version on Body Talk PT2 was orchestrated by a surging string section and displays Robyn’s ebullient lyrics about the power of love. Once again we witness her innate ability to project utter strength in her lyrics while also wearing her heart proudly on her sleeve. This pulsating full power version takes every ounce of that emotion and wraps it up in another exceptional disco-pop record worthy of any dance-floor or passion-laden sing-a-long.
Body Talk tracklisting:
1. Fembot
2. Don´t fucking tell me what to do
3. Dancing on my own
4. Indestructible
5. Time Machine
6. Love kills
7. Hang with me
8. Call your girlfriend
9. None of dem
10. We dance to the beat
11. U should know better
12. Dance hall queen
13. Get myself together
14. In my eyes
15. Stars 4-ever

Tinchy Stryder’s album ‘Third Strike’ to be released on 15th November

Last year The Prince of Grime scored two number one singles, (‘Number 1’and ‘Never Leave You’), released a critically acclaimed chart topping album, (‘Catch 22’), and notched up enough sales to make him the biggest selling British solo male artist of 2009. He also performed at all the major festivals of the summer, supported Akon on tour, embarked on his own 18 date sold out nationwide headline tour, developed his Star in The Hood merchandise from T-shirts sold on eBay to a fully developed clothing range, and graduate with a degree in Digital Arts and Moving Imagery from The University of East London. This year has seen Tinchy Stryder complete a second sold out headline tour in the UK, open the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury, expand his clothing range from online to in store (it is now stocked in over 60 stores nationwide) and start up a Joint Venture 360 music entertainment company with Jay Z (Takeover Roc Nation). All while writing and recording his third album ‘Third Strike’. Following on from the release of the top 10 single, ‘In My System’ and scoring 2 x MOBO nominations, Tinchy Stryder is set to hit the airwaves with ‘Second Chance’, the second single from ‘Third Strike’. Produced by Fraser T Smith, ‘Second Chance’ sees Tinchy reunited with Taio Cruz, who featured on his single ‘Take Me back’ last year. ‘Third Strike’, Tinchy’s third album, explores themes on a deeper level following on from success and the impact it has had on his life since the days of growing in Bow, East London. The album is a balanced collection of songs; including a mix of harder street tracks such as ‘Gangsta?’ coupled with catchy, radio friendly singles that have become Tinchy’s signature. Production comes courtesy of Fraser T Smith and Nathan Retro and features guest artists such as Melanie Fiona on ‘Let it Rain’, Bluey Robinson on ‘Tomorrow’ and ‘Game Over’ featuring Tinie Tempah. Chart topping artist, fashion entrepreneur, and music industry mogul –whichever hat Tinchy wears he moves from strength to strength, proving further that “British Urban music need look no longer jealously at the US” (The Times).

I'm Lovin' this N-Dubz Brand new Single "Girls"

Fresh from a show stopping performance and fourth award win at the recent MOBOS, urban pop super-group N-Dubz triumphantly return with their new single ‘Girls’, released via their new musical home, All Around The World & Island Records on 13th December 2010. ‘Girls’ is the second single from their highly anticipated new album ‘Love, Live, Life’ (released November 29th) quickly following their recent Top 10 smash ‘Best Behaviour’. Written by the band and Jim Jonson (Beyonce, Usher. Lil Wayne), ‘Girls’ is a slick celebration of the female form, showcasing edgy beats and tough lyrics reminiscent of early N-Dubz hits. Representing a universal love for women, ‘Girls’ features a contagious hook that flows over the band’s trademark electronic synths and gritty urban beats. The N-Dubz furore continues this winter with the release of their third album, ‘Love, Live, Life’. In May 2010, N-Dubz signed a five-album deal with Island Def Jam records in the U.S. Recorded in LA and Miami and mixed and mastered in Oxford, production on the new album comes from an eclectic mix of music’s heaviest hitters, including Salaam Remi (Amy Winehouse, Fugees, Ms. Dynamite), The Runners (Justin Bieber, Rihanna), Jean-Baptiste (Black Eyed Peas), Freeschool (Kid CuDi), and writer Ina Wroldsen. Featured artists on the album include grime king Skepta, R&B singer Ny and N-Dubz’s own protégé, Fearless. Tulisa says: “The times are changing and songs like Girls are relevant right now. If Madonna had kept the same sound her whole career, she wouldn’t have lasted.” Adds Fazer of their impending US invasion: “I think we’ll be a problem out there; the records that we’re doing are out of this world.” Without question, N-Dubz are one of the most culturally significant groups in contemporary British pop music. The trio have sold over 1 million copies of their debut album, Uncle B (2008) and its 2009 follow-up, Against All Odds. The antithesis of manufactured, mass-produced pop puppets, the Camden three have already left an indelible mark on the charts, while their cultural impact - from their look to their sound, slang and catchphrases - is unequivocal. With three MOBO Awards, a BRIT nominations, fans in the form of Gary Barlow and Little Wayne, the band also have an almost unmatchable online presence, with 100 million views on YouTube, 680,000 friends on Facebook and 150,000 followers on Twitter. Providing further insight into their individual characters, they released a Sunday Times Bestselling book, Against All Odds: From Street Life To Chart Life and starred in a major Channel 4 reality series, Being N-Dubz (A 1 Hour Christmas Special of the Hit TV show will be coming to TV screens in December), while Tulisa presented the BBC3 documentary My Mum And Me about her mum’s struggle with mental illness. After selling out a 21-date tour earlier this year, the band are about to announce an Arena tour for 2011, the first UK urban act to embark on such major venues. “We’re nowhere near finished yet,” insists Tulisa. “Our aim has always been to be the best in the UK, and now we’re setting our sights on the rest of the world.”

Jonathan Jeremiah “SEE” & Later with Jools performance

Jonathan Jeremiah, whose timeless songs and soulful voice have marked him out as a songwriter with a rare talent, previews his highly anticipated 2011 debut album “Solitary Man” with the release on December 13th of his new single “See”. In addition Jonathan was one of the guests, alongside Kings of Leon, M.I.A. and Eric Clapton, on this week’s Later With Jools, which transmitted on BBC2 at 11.50 on Friday November 5th. (performance available on BBC iPlayer). The public will have a chance to hear Jonathan perform this beautiful string-drenched song and other tracks from the new album during his forthcoming residency at London's Borderline. The shows kicked off on October 27th, with further appearances on November 10th, 23rd and December 6th. Jeremiah recently guested with Rumer at her sell-out Bloomsbury Theatre show. Jeremiah was born and raised in London to an Anglo-Indian father and a Tipperary born Irish Catholic mother. From an early age he listened to songs from his parent’s collections, songs by Scott Walker, James Taylor, Bill Withers, among others. The constant thread running through these different artist’s records was an evocative sound that stripped away all artifice and aimed straight for the heart, mind and soul. Following a trip across the Atlantic, which ended with him performing in a piano bar in New York, Jonathan returned home realizing that all he needed to make his own album, was right here, back in England. Throughout the recording process, he was determined to make songs for everyone's ears – music that would explore different moods, but also have the immediacy of the best soul and pop. As well as putting the finishing touches to his own record, Jonathan found has been in the studio recording the track “Good Riddance” for the new Aeroplane album.

Robyn new single "Indestructible"

As the third and final album in Robyn’s unique trilogy for 2010 approaches, the exquisite song Indestructible will round off her single releases for the year. Further album details to follow. “I wanna love you like I’ve never been hurt before, I wanna love you like I’m indestructible” Robyn recently performed Dancing On My Own at the MTV VMA’s in LA with Deadmau5 following her tour of the U.S with Kelis. Currently on tour in Europe, she returned to the UK on October 18th to play her biggest shows to date. And Robyn has just announced a Roundhouse show on 3rd March 2011. Tickets on sale now through

Nicki Minaj new single “Right Thru Me” plus debut album

Nicki Minaj, the first lady of Young Money/Cash Money Records and one of the hottest artists on the planet right now, has her new single “Right Thru Me” released on November 22nd. The track is taken from the 25 year old rap phenomenon’s feverishly anticipated debut album which is also released on November 22nd.  Nicki Minaj’s star has been on the rise since she released her first mixtape, Playtime Is Over, in 2007. The mixtape featured Lil Wayne and the cover showed Nicki posing as a Barbie Doll. A second mixtape “Sucka Free” released a year later, increased the heat around Minaj and was followed in 2009 by mixtape number three “Beam Me Up Scotty”. Shortly thereafter Nicki, aka Harajuku Barbie, aka Nicki Lewinsky, aka Roman Zolanski, aka Ms Step Your Cookies Up, signed to Lil Wayne’s new label Young Money Entertainment and featured heavily on Young Money’s debut album “We Are Young Money” which spawned the massive hit single “Bedrock”. Minaj has also made her name from her many features on A list artists tracks including "Up Out My Face (Remix)" with Mariah Carey, "My Chick Bad" with Ludacris, "Lil' Freak" with Usher, “Knockout” with Lil Wayne, Christina Aguilera's "Woohoo" and most recently label mate and fellow Young Money soldier Drake’s “Up All Night”. It was Minaj’s larger than life personality and gum-snapping flow that drew the attention of Lil Wayne, and now the anticipation for her debut album has reached fever pitch as the first single proper is about to drop and this undisputed Queen Of Hip Hop, all 5’ 2” of her, is set to follow in the footsteps of Wayne and Drake as the next genuine superstar of hip hop.

CocknBullKid live dates plus One Eye Closed 7" download

CocknBullKid has made a couple of important transitions recently. First, she's changed her name, dropping the pronoun (she's CocknBullKid, not thecocknbullkid). And secondly, she has emerged from a creative cocoon with a suite of bright, breezy and ultra-colourful pop songs that exist at least five giant leaps away from the savvy, autobiographical electro tunes like 'On My Own' that got her a slot on Jools Holland even before she signed to Island/Moshi Records. "The music I made at first was cool, but it was work in progress. There was only so far I could take it. I knew I was capable of more. I wanted to make music that reached people further than E9, or whatever the cool postcode is now." It's been worth the wait. The 25 year old Hackney resident, aka Anita Blay, is in possession of the most interesting, credible pop record of the year. But you’ll just have to take our word for it until spring 2011 when the full album, ‘Adulthood’ will be released. Anita has already whet our appetites for what’s in store with ‘Cocknbullkid’ – a teaser track that she co-write with Gonzales – and this is the follow up. ‘One Eye Closed’ is the perfect launch pad for what’s in store for 2011. Once again illustrating Blay’s overwhelming ability to pen a perfect pop song with just the right amount of edge. Her album was recorded in London, Paris and Stockholm with production from Liam Howe. Blay co-wrote the songs with a variety of talents, including electronic, eccentric piano man Gonzales who worked on half the songs. There are a couple of songs from Peter Morén from Peter, Björn and John and a co-write each from Joe Flory aka Primary 1, Joseph 'Metronomy' Mount who produced Blay's Moshi Moshi-released early songs, and long-time collaborator Mark Tieku.
Remixes for One Eye Closed are as follows:
One Eye Closed (Jakwob Remix)
One Eye Closed (Kris Menace Remix)

Annie Lennox New Single and A Christmas Cornucopia

One of the most successful, iconic and talented artists of the late 20th century is back – and back like you’ve never heard her before. On November 15th 2010, Annie Lennox releases her sixth solo album. A Christmas Cornucopia is a collection of new, inspired interpretations of 11 traditional festive songs, rounded out by a new Lennox composition, Universal Child, available digitally from 12th October. “All the income that I earn from Universal Child will be paid to the Annie Lennox Foundation.” The Annie Lennox Foundation raises money for projects supporting and educating women and children in Africa with HIV/AIDS. “I’ve known these songs, these carols all my life, I’ve sung them since I was little,” says the songwriter and singer of The Holly And The Ivy, Silent Night, The First Noel and other, less-widely-known songs such as Il Est Ne Le Divin Enfant, and Lullay Lullay. “ They’re just in me. They’re a huge part of my life. So it’s not an arbitrary selection. Those relationships with those pieces of music were there intrinsically before I approached the recording.” The music on the album was mostly played by Lennox, in collaboration with co producer Mike Stevens, and recorded in his southwest London studio – at the bottom of his garden. But to achieve the resonance and vibrancy that were integral to Lennox’s ideas for these re-energized reboots, the pair also worked with a 30-piece orchestra at Pinewood Studios. And they travelled further afield too: to South Africa, to record with the African Children’s Choir, a remarkable organization with which impassioned campaigner and activist Lennox has long had a relationship. “There are 34 different choirs. They’re like a big extended family – the people who work with them, their careers, are called aunties and uncles. And it’s so precious – if you asked them, as we did with these eight and nine year olds, ‘how is your life different now that you’re in the choir?’ They would say things like, ‘Now I get really good food to eat.’ Or, ‘Now I wear nice clothes.’ “I had met them several times before, through 44664 (Nelson Mandela’s HIV AIDS foundation) – we had this ongoing connection, and I felt that if I was to record any children’s voices it had to be theirs.” A Christmas Cornucopia is no saccharine packaged selection box. As befits its title, it offers an abundance of songs – drawn from British, French and German traditions – and a host of ideas. On Lullay Lullay, “a lullaby I’ve known for years and the darkest carol I think,” Lennox draws direct links between the Nativity and the plight of Africa’s child soldiers. “Lullay Lullay alludes to the killing of first-born boy children by King Herod… and going back more deeply into the story of the song, I kept getting images of child soldiers in my head…The violation of children is endemic in many so places. Even though this carol is ancient, the brutality of the subject matter is just as relevant today. Vibrant but vintage, classic and contemporary, glorious but with a polemical edge – notably in Universal Child – A Christmas Cornucopia also marks the beginning of Annie Lennox’s relationship with Universal/Island. “The Island team were so enthusiastic, and so excited to be working with me, and I was blown away that they felt like that. It feels very energized, and fresh and new. And that’s a great feeling for me.” You can hear as much in A Christmas Cornucopia.

Florence + the Machine - Heavy In Your Arms Island Records November 15

To round off yet another exceptional year, Florence will be releasing the mighty single ‘Heavy In Your Arms’ on November 15th. Produced by Paul Epworth the track a favourite of recent festival headlining live sets was recorded for the Twilight Eclipse film. Florence comments “Heavy in your arms I suppose is about the weight of love, and how sometimes it can be a burden between two people, I felt this was a strong theme in the twilight series, is someone being rescued or are they being condemned, and is the love you carry bringing you down. I recorded it with paul one evening, using a lot of strange reversed vocal samples and big hip hop piano, its basically inspired by 90's hip hop, and gospel choirs, like most of my songs..” ‘Heavy In your Arms’ will also be available on ‘Between Two Lungs’. A two disc special edition version of her 4 x platinum selling Brit Award winning debut album ‘Lungs’. ‘Between Two Lungs’ will feature new cover art, sleeve notes by Florence and exclusive images. Plus a 10 track second disc which as aswell as Heavy In Your Arms, also includes among others, a live recording of brand new song ‘Strangeness & Charm’. The massive collaboration with Dizzee Rascal ‘You Got The Dirtee Love’ and a previously unreleased Yeasayer remix of ‘Dog Days Are Over’ and will also be available on November 15. Florence recently wowed worldwide audiences with her live performance (and victory) at this year’s MTV VMA Awards which saw her album explode in the U.S. Firing up to #2 in the I tunes chart and breaking the top #15 in the Billboard album chart. Exciting times ahead there! Back home Florence has just been nominated for two Q Awards, including Best Female and Best song.

Superstar Nelly returns with a brand new single November 8th

Rapper/actor/CEO, 3 time Grammy winner and all-round superstar Nelly, whose 30 million plus combined album/single sales have established the St. Louis native as one of music’s most bankable and consistent stars, returns in a big way with the release on November 8th of his brand new US smash single “Just A Dream”. Taken from his hotly anticipated forthcoming new album “5.0”, “Just A Dream” entered the US iTunes chart at number 5, has already sold over 1 million copies. “Just a Dream” was produced by Jim Jonsin (Lil Wayne “Lollipop”, T.I. “Whatever You Love”) and Rico Love (Beyonce “Sweet Dreams, Kelly Rowland “Commander”). The new album will feature appearances by Akon, T.I. and Kelly Rowland. With “Just A Dream” Nelly looks to add to his celebrated run of global hit singles from his game-changing debut “Country Grammar,” and “Ride Wit Me” to the Justin Timberlake collaboration “Work It”, the Kelly Rowland duet “Dilemma” and the seven-week at No. 1 “Hot in Herre.” With a catalogue of global Top 10 hits, including 4 UK and 4 US number 1’s, 3 multi-platinum albums, a slew of Grammy, MTV and Billboard awards gracing his St Louis mantelpiece, Nelly also starred in the major Hollywood movie, “The Longest Yard”, alongside Adam Sandler, Chris Rock and Burt Reynolds.
Some Nelly facts to chew over : With the simultaneous release of Sweat and Suit, Nelly became the first solo artist in history to debut at no. 1 (‘Suit’) and 2 (‘Sweat’) in the Billboard chart. Nellyville was certified Gold or Platinum in 35 countries. 3-time Grammy Award winner (11 total nominations). Nelly’s "Jes Us 4 Jackie" charity was established in March 2003 by Nelly and his sister Jackie Donahue after Donahue was diagnosed with leukemia.

AKON New single "Angel" plus dance music inspired album Akonic

Global superstar Akon, whose three previous albums have each sold more than half a million copies in the UK, yielding an unbroken string of massive worldwide hit singles, returns with the release on November 22nd of his brand new single “Angel”. Taken from his eagerly awaited dance music inspired album “AKONIC”, “Angel” was produced by Akon & fellow master hit maker David Guetta. Akon is without question one of the greatest hit making forces of all time and is the first solo artist to hold the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 - twice. Over the years he has worked with, produced and featured on a slew of international hits, including those for Michael Jackson, Sir Elton John, Eminem, Gwen Stefani, Whitney Houston, as well as Lady Gaga, who was one of the first signings to Akon’s Kon-live label. Akon has also established himself as a serious business man and entrepreneur who has quickly built an empire that includes a record label, fashion line and charity foundation. This work ethic was ingrained in the singer at an early age by his father, famed percussionist Mor Thiam. While being raised in Senegal, Akon would take all the percussion lessons taught by his father while simultaneously studying the violin and keyboard. Upon moving back to the States and later settling in Atlanta, the producer opened up some recording studios as an investment, but quickly found an urge to create music of his own. After doing time, the singer used those experiences as the basis for Trouble, his 2004 debut album which would eventually sell over 2 million copies. 2006 saw the release of the follow-up Konvicted, which, with the help of now-ubiquitous songs "Smack That," "I Wanna Love You," and "Don't Matter" sold over 3 million copies. Akon won the 2007 American Music Award for Best Male Soul/R&B artist and was honoured three times at the World Music Awards. He has achieved gold and platinum certifications in over a dozen countries and been nominated for multiple Grammys. 2008 saw the release of Akon’s third album “Freedom” and as always the hits kept coming as “Beautiful”, “Right Now NaNaNa” and “I’m So Paid” saw Akon remain a genuine chart staple.

Dagenham, Essex's very own Devlin. ‘bud, sweat & beers’ is a step change for grime. Released 1st November 2010

At long last it feels like UK rap music is well and truly erupting. Every way you look - from the summit of the charts to the breaking waves of the underground - the UK rap fraternity is seizing control. In between the ricocheting lyrical crossfire one face is emerging as one of 2010's most notorious breaking artists, and that's the angular bone-structure of Dagenham, Essex's very own Devlin. ‘bud, sweat & beers’ is a step change for grime. Socially aware. Spiritually conflicted with a sacred heart and profane mouth. Dark, accurate and artful lyrical sketches of life at social margins. Capacious enough to make reference to Hollywood’s Wesley Snipes, super-bug C-Difficile, Pengi, Nostradamus, Picasso, Tectonic plates and Elvis. It’s an imaginative feast. Lyrical meaning unfolds on meaning. Metaphors come as quickly as the mind can process. The album opens with the thunderous cavalcade of ‘1989’ where heavy-metal guitar stabs provide an urgent, heart-in-mouth backdrop for his trademark frantic rhymes. He starts his story at 12 years old, from the first bars effortlessly conjuring a gritty childhood world – ‘no worries on my brain, with a pound in my pocket and a chest full of smoke’. What follows is a compressed, self-reflexive biog right up to this moment – the debut track on his debut album. Looking back he speedily traces his rise through the hyper-competitive underground grime and garage scene. Inspired by seminal MCs like Sharkey Major and Kano he heard on pirate radio stations like Temptation, Kiss 100, Flava, Déjà Vu. His first broadcast on Rinse FM, all ‘paving the way’ for this ‘fatal display’. ‘Brainwashed’ was Devlin’s first single release from the album. Using a rich mix of references and images he sets out to ‘brainwash your mind like Derren Brown or Charlie Manson’ till his surname is familiar like your ‘family members’. ‘Days & Nights’ is a soundtrack to night terrors. If Earth isn’t hell, it’s a fiery place; ‘metallic projectiles fly in your face and leave you like human garbage lying in drains’. In rap hustler style he won’t sleep till he’s ‘in the sky like lightning and thunder’. Devlin is a diabetes sufferer, hence the needle reference. Tonal respite comes in the blissed-out production of ‘London City’ celebrating good times in the capital. With over 2,500,000 million views on Youtube the song struck a deep chord with the nation’s youth and propelled Devlin to his label deal. The song originally sampled hit game Metal Gear Solid. ‘Marching Through The Fog’ directly addresses the fog of ‘war’ within the grime scene. Over movie strings he warns not to put him in a box ‘if there’s one thing I am not, its fucking rectangular’. ‘Let It Go’ features the talents of rising producer/singer Labrinth. With two giant talents on it this track couldn’t be hotter. Devlin’s razor sharp intelligence forensically dissects a relationship while Labrinth makes innovative, hyper-active production magic. Dubstep, rock, reggae, trance and R&B are collaged into one track. ‘Yesterday’s News’ is in reflective, reflexive mode. Devlin’s just started garnering national attention on radio and TV but in the underground he’s outrun rivals to remain ‘tomorrow’s promise’. ‘Community Outcast’ is a key track. With over 1,500,000 views on Youtube. Devlin wrote the track when he was 16. It first appeared on early mixtape Tales From The Crypt. With its empathy and kitchen sink details it changed the face of grime. It contains a barbed analysis of a Government ‘more interested in war and invasion when children are sleeping at railway stations’. Martial drums open ‘World Still Turns’; he zooms out to take a cosmic view of Earthly fortune. While music careers are built up and knocked down the Earth ‘still spins on its axis’. ‘Dreamer’ takes us on a faux-naïve trip referencing everything from Bob Marley to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with a nugget of truth at the center. Spectral strings announce the beginning of ‘Our Father’, the spiritual center of a record that tussles with existential concerns. ‘Finally’ is a classic, nocturnal, string-laden production by Lewi White. It features fellow grime luminaries and Ghetts and Dogzilla. Dogzilla is the Johnny-appleseed of grime in Dagenham. Ghetts is a legendary scene leader. ‘Runaway’ falls like a shaft of sunlight into the gothic gloom. Featuring beautiful rising star Yasmin it’s an escape fantasy from London’s ‘dark and deadly maze’ through the gates of Victoria Station. Opening to the sound of machine gun fire ‘End Of Days’ asks the listener to view an Apocalyptic alternative London through the eyes of a poet from the economic underclass. It’s a translucent hallucination of a City where the poor are ‘fighting for food because they’re dwelling where the rats live’. Highlighted here is just an introduction to an album that rewards close attention. In the words of hip hop maven Westwood it’s ‘in a league of its own’. Plain White T’s return with a new single, “Rhythm of Love,”

Twice Grammy Award-nominated Plain White T’s return with a new single, “Rhythm of Love,” out on October 17th, taken from their forthcoming release, “Wonders of the Younger”, released on October 18th. Penned and sung by the Chicago band’s guitarist Tim Lopez, the summery romantic pop single, “Rhythm of Love,” picks up where previous No.2 charting hit “Hey There Delilah” left us swooning two summers ago – #1 song on UK radio for 3 weeks, #1 on iTunes for 2 weeks, UK singles chart Top 10 for 12 weeks. The track, inspired by a bittersweet romance, is in its third week at radio in the US, and has already hit the top 30 on the Hot AC chart – and it looks likely to dominate the airwaves here too. Though the band is leading off with a romantic pop song, Higgenson points out that the group is in a different place than the one that prompted “Hey There Delilah.” An example of the five-piece’s darker, more expansive songs is album track “Welcome to Mystery,” which fans will have already heard as part of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland extravagant 3D movie companion compilation Almost Alice, for which it was especially penned. Frontman Tom Higgenson says, “We’ve been fans of Tim Burton’s since ‘Beetlejuice,’ so just being associated with the world-wide blockbuster was amazing, it also offered us the opportunity to give people a taste of what we’re doing now.” The track’s “playfully mysterious vibe, sonic grandeur and expansive sense of possibility,” Higgenson says, “are the essence of the new album’s approach.” The singer and guitarist elaborates, “We’re focused on writing great songs that resonate with what the band has become. If you listen to it in your car or on headphones, we want it to feel like a big, flowing rollercoaster ride – where you never quite know what’s coming next.” The release of “Rhythm of Love” and the forthcoming album are the result of the band’s awakening into a more nostalgic, creative world – but without losing the big pop sensibility which has previously seen them sell out UK headline tours and sell over 200,000 digital singles alone

Island Life UK tour brings together three extraordinary talents

Island Records is proud to announce the launch of a new live initiative; Island Life. Life will provide a platform for the new breed of Island acts. Kicking off the showcases will be a night in East London and a UK-wide tour. On October 8th the Queen of Hoxton will reverberate to the sounds of UK pop’s stellar new pixie Coco Sumner AKA I Blame Coco. Support from Pete Lawrie (more of which below) and this year’s brightest new producer/hitmaker Starsmith. Also on the decks will be the Island Records All Star DJs while our friends at Red Stripe have kindly offered to supply free beer to the first 250 people through the door. The inaugural Island Life UK tour brings together three extraordinary talents. 22-year-old Lauren Pritchard hails from Jackson, Tennessee and has been described by The Sunday Times as ‘wonderful, brooding, strung-out soul’. Produced by Eg White - the man behind Adele’s ‘Chasing Pavements’ - her future is bright. Zimbabwe born, Hackney-raised Tinashé will be bringing his debut album to life on tour. Q magazine gave it 4 stars for its mix of ‘Motown production with lovelorn lyrics’. Tinashé has the soulful showman moves to match when he performs. He is stepping out on tour with Eliza Doolittle and Mark Ronson after this stint. Welshman Pete Lawrie is the latest musician to have found favour at label mate’s Mumford and Son’s West London folk and gospel night Communion. Music is in this talented young man’s blood, his Grandfather played on ‘Strawberry’s Fields Forever’ by The Beatles. With his rough-hewn vocals he is an electric live prospect. Island’s 22-year-old Celtic songbird Pearl & The Puppets completes the line-up. Already a huge pull in her native Scotland she is also the sound of the new Tamara Drewe movie, which used her single ‘Make Me Smile’ in its trailer. The same song was described by Grazia magazine as ‘top of our playlist’.

Annie Mac Presents 2010

AMP is back shining its lazer-like attention on the most vibrant new dance music. Annie Mac Presents 2010 collects the biggest tunes she’s been championing on Radio 1 this year into one sub woofer-busting package. From Joy Orbison’s ‘Hyph Mngo’ to Swedish House Mafia’s ‘One’ this mix is going to bring back memories for the Mac faithful that pack out her bleeding edge Presents club nights (responsible for 2010’s sell out parties everywhere from London’s KOKO to Miami’s WMC, Austin’s SXSW, Manchester’s Warehouse Project and all other self respecting international hot spots). The mix flows to some new currents too. The Berlin influenced nocturnal disco-bacchanal of Scissor Sisters ‘Invisible Light’. The resurgent hardcore feel represented by her exclusive Digital Soundboy remix of Magnetic Man’s ‘I Need Air’ or Tensnake’s one man 90s revival with ‘Coma Cat’. As with Annie’s 2009 compilation the mix peaks at the end of CD1 with CD2 drifting down through some softer textures. The Balaeric glo-fi pop of Delorean. Flying Lotus’ tripped out psychotropic MPC-jazz, wrapping up with the loveliness of Foals ‘Spanish Sahara’. More exquisite music compiled by cutting edge dance music’s go to girl.

Robyn's pop prowess: Eagerly awaited Body Talk Pt 2

The dust has barely had time to settle since the arrival of Body Talk Pt 1, the first instalment of Robyn's ambitious three-part album release plan for this year. Lead single Dancing On My Own, the heartbreaking heir to With Every Heartbeat, went top ten in the UK, while everyone from Pitchfork to the BBC, the Guardian to Stereogum, bestowed effusive praise (and numerous stars) on the album. It's fair to say many are waiting eagerly for part two, and they will not be disappointed. Body Talk Pt 2 offers the clearest example yet of Robyn's pop prowess; 8 songs that crystallize her preoccupation with hypnotic repetition, propulsive beats and infectious hooks, and lyrics which display the kind of unabashed emotional vulnerability that only comes with true self-confidence. Body Talk 2 is further proof that Robyn's understanding and love of pop music is as intrinsic as it is accomplished.
Body Talk 2 will be released Sept 13 on Island Records

Joyous blast from Tinashe - Debut album & new single "Saved"

Multi-talented vocalist, musician and songwriter Tinashé released his new single ‘Saved’ on August 15th. Taken from his self-titled debut album - released on August 23rd – ‘Saved’ is a joyous blast of guitar pop so perky it belies its rather weightier subject matter. Written after being accosted by a particularly forthright tramp on London's Oxford Street, its underlying message of defiance and self-belief ("I'll be here until your faith is won!") is deeply personal. "It's a song about trying, and trying, and trying," explains Tinashé. "This bum tapped me on the shoulder, and said, 'I'm an angel, mate, but don't worry, you'll be saved. You know what thy did to me? They chucked me in the bin!'

Get ready for Little Fish ‘Baffled And Beat’ - Debut album to be released August 16th

Little Fish singer, writer and guitarist Juju says that the band’s recent single ‘Am I Crazy?’ is about “the pain you go through when falling in love” but the title could equally refer to the crazy ride the band have experienced in the last year or so since legendary songwriter/producer Linda Perry heard their demos, flew to the UK to see them play at a pub in Oxford, signed them on the spot and took them out to LA to produce their first album. This has been followed by a hectic touring schedule supporting a who’s who of rock bands including Placebo,Them Crooked Vultures, Hole, Juliette Lewis and, most recently, Blondie. This, plus having three songs on the Rock Band game, a song in the new Hilary Swank movie ‘The Resident’ and a host of great reviews for their live show, as well as Radio 1 play and playlisting on XFM and Kerrang! TV have brought the band to the public’s attention even before the release of this, their first album. The addition of a Hammond player to the Oxford-based two piece has enabled them to replicate the album sound on stage. The album, much of which was recorded live, is released on Custard/Island Records on August 16th. The songs on the album, titled ‘Baffled And Beat’, are about love, life, betrayal and pain according to Juju. “Our songs are about people. They write away our sickness. They define us by what we are not. They speak of chaos and confusion, relationships, their conflicts and our need for cures. The songs run alongside all that we live; our failings, our contradictions, our hungers, our excesses, our exits, our shadows. A wound opened by betrayal, love, life, is slow to heal. If we bow our head and look to the ground, it is because we are searching for the things we have lost. Mostly the songs speak of the constant strain living has on the nerves, so as to make sense of it. They speak of people with possibilities, of junk in need of hunger and of the pains within us. People waiting on street corners and in cafeterias for love and life to happen, all this knowing that one day affection will burn us and we will make it to happiness. It came to us to sing, to play as the songs ran along with us.’’ Onstage, Little Fish are sensual thunder, drawing you in with dangerous warmth. Most often Juju's self taught guitar style blazes through as Nez vigorously propels himself and beats his way through the songs. "It's like an exorcism," says Juju when the songs come. "They are based on human expression, sometimes things that can't be said are best left sung." JuJu’s voice haunts and mesmerizes in a similar way to Patti Smith. What’s in evidence throughout the band’s music is passion and intelligence, maybe even a little anger, but it’s melodic and true to the song. The Little Fish album is all real drums – half of it is live – no click track, no over dubs. Linda Perry gave JuJu a really hard time in the studio and pushed her with her writing. According to JuJu, Linda is a, “Fearless, bolshie, American rock star/super star who believes in herself.” It’s rubbed off on JuJu helping to create music with serious attitude. “She would send me away to a room and say don’t come out until you’ve got it finished. She told me she has never been so tough on any artist that’s she’s worked with, but she showed me what I have inside of me and brought the best out in me.” Listening to their music you can hear this creativity in all its glory. “I have to be by myself in a room when I’m writing so no one can hear me shouting and screaming like an exorcist. Some people can write in public, but not me. For me it’s a solitary experience, so I can unlock my lyrics and bare my soul and inspiration.” The name Little Fish is the result of Juju's daydream "Feel free, I wake up in a head spin. I am me. I am just a Little Fish. I see what I see..."

Devlin Confirmed support for Example’s UK Tour & New Album ‘Brainwashed’

One of the most eagerly anticipated artists of 2010 is 21-year-old James Devlin. Having released an uncompromisingly gritty opening salvo with Giggs in April (‘Shot Music) the Dagenham MC of Irish extraction returns with a statement of intent for the rest of the year. ‘Brainwashed’ is a rain-swept gothic backdrop for Devlin’s wordplay and imagery, like a darkly inked page out of V for Vendetta. A lyrical prodigy that started on pirate radio at age 13, he is unrivalled in the grime scene for the cinematic power of his bars. ‘My names lodged up in your brain like a blade in an operation’ goes one typically grimey metaphor. Famed for having ‘the biggest vocabulary in grime’, Devlin’s forthcoming album, will bring to mind the richest, most imaginatively detailed storyteller’s albums. Nas is one seminal influence. Bruce Springsteen is another. But that’s to come. This single has the modest intent of brainwashing a nation like a dystopian despot; ‘neurological science will leave your brain cells rewired, my name’s Devlin I am just trying to gain entry to your mind’.

Tennessee born, Lauren Pritchard's new Island ep “Painkillers" is out now

Jackson Tennessee born, London based singer-songwriter Lauren Pritchard, a new artist with a remarkable voice and a rare song-writing talent to match, follows the release of her acclaimed debut “The Jackson Sessions” ep with the release on July 19th of her new Island ep “Painkillers. Written by the 22 year old Pritchard and produced by Eg White, best known for co-writing and producing Adele’s Grammy-winning classic hit “Chasing Pavements” and Duffy’s worldwide smash “Warwick Avenue”, the track features legendary sticksman and Roots founder Questlove on drums.
The full track listing is as follows:
1. Painkillers
2. Try A Little Harder
3. Painkillers (Body Language Remix)
4. Painkillers (Flotilla Remix)
Since the beginning of the year Lauren has performed live across the UK building an ever growing fanbase. The young American was personally invited by Paul Weller to join him on stage during his recent In Concert Radio 2 session after he had heard her debut ep The Jackson Sessions. Their duet, on the Holland Dozier Holland classic “How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You”, was the B-side of Weller’s new single “Find The Torch/Burn The Plans”. Audiences had plenty of opportunities to see Lauren performing live over the summer including festival appearances at Glastonbury and Latitude and a show with Professor Green at the Proud Gallery’s 2nd Birthday for MENCAP on June 23rd. The Professor Green date came about after the two recently met at a rehearsal studio in London, immediately hit it off and wrote and recorded a song together. Lauren Pritchard was born and raised in Jackson, Tennessee, archetypal deep south small town USA. She’d always sung and played piano from an early age and when she reached her teens felt the need to move away from her comfortable family surroundings and forge a life in music. At the age of 16, she headed, alone, to LA where she sang in a band, fell in love, broke up, ran out of money and was on her way back to Jackson, dream in tatters, when one of her close friends, insisted she move in with them. The friend was Riley Keogh whose mum is Lisa Marie Presley. Newly invigorated, Lauren lived with them for 8 months during which time she landed a starring role in the highly acclaimed, hard-hitting contemporary musical ‘Spring Awakening’. The show hit the big-time and soon Lauren was re-locating to New York where she performed on Broadway for two years. With the phenomenal success of “Spring Awakening” and word spreading through New York music business circles about the girl with the incredible voice, Lauren landed a record deal. That partnership didn’t work out so well and they soon went their separate ways. However as Lauren was finding out, as one door closes another opens. A meeting with Ivor Novello-winning songwriter Eg White, who had heard and been blown away by Lauren’s demos, lead to her decision to once again up sticks and move, alone again, to her third big city, London. Her collaborations with Eg were soon producing a batch of incredible songs and Island Records, aware that they has found a serious talent, wasted no time in securing Lauren’s signature. Work on the debut album started in earnest and just a year after arriving in England, to make the record she had long dreamed of making, “Wasted In Jackson” was finished.
