Download Annie Lennox new single "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" from 20th December

Taken from Lennox’s acclaimed festive album ‘A Christmas Cornucopia’ available now through Island Records. Annie Lennox, one of the most successful, iconic and talented artists of the late 20th century releases the single ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’ just in time for Christmas on 20th December. ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’ is accompanied by a glorious video, which is a beautiful and magical illustration of the song and the Dickensian feel that is synonymous with it. Annie Lennox oversaw the creative of the video, using the iconic Angel outfit worn in the Eurythmics unforgettable ‘There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart) video from 1985. One of the many highlights of the brand new festival album, ‘A Christmas Cornucopia’, this powerful rendition of the mid 18th Century traditional Christmas classic will fill our hearts and minds with joyful festive spirit as we all prepare ourselves for the inevitable last minute preparations for the big day. While many version of ‘God Rest Ye…’ exist, Lennox’s version is definitely one of the most charging and uplifting with it’s heavy use of percussion and world music instruments accompanying Lennox’s distinctive and powerful voice - it’s clear that Lennox’s version will be enjoyed for many Christmas’s to come. The new Annie Lennox album ‘A Christmas Cornucopia’ features 11 traditional Christmas songs alongside a new composition, the beautiful ‘Universal Child’. The Christmas themed songs include the classics, ‘ The First Noel’ and ‘Silent Night’, while also featuring the more rarer ‘Il Est Ne Le Devin Enfant’ and Lullay Lullay (Coventry Carol)’. In making the new album Annie Lennox wanted to reboot and re-energize these songs – some sacred, some secular, and all special. To strip away the varnish, the iconography, the (for want of a better word) religiosity. To restore the hymnal heart and soulful sentiment, in a manner that will appeal to listeners of all faiths, creeds and cultures. “Compassion, respect, understanding and tolerance should be at the heart of every religious faith. All too often it’s completely the opposite”. With her voice, with such sentiments, and with that passion and vision, Lennox has achieved her goal. It’s an album and idea she was, you might say, born to do – Annie Lennox’s birthday is 25th December!
WHAT THE PAPERS SAY"...there's a very different feeling expressed in this collection, with absolutely no corny sentiment or 'baby it's cold outside' warm-blanket platitudes found in most Christmas collections. " – Mojo
"Lennox's "Christmas Cornucopia" far from an exploitation item, it's one of the most deeply felt works of her career” NY Daily News
"often deeply touching" - The Guardian
