This emotionally charged huge song is suffused with an elegantly weary grandiloquence, gospel chords shine the way for a multi-tracked flock of Florences to soar in free flight. “The gospel thing comes from my obsession with hymns. PAUL WELLER new album Sonik Kicks & March Live dates at the Roundhouse

Enjoying a constant critical high and a never ending creative peak, Paul Weller continues to push the boundaries with his new album SONIK KICKS, due for release on March 26th 2012. This is the follow up to the Mercury Music Award nominated WAKE UP THE NATION and Paul’s eleventh solo album. Once again, it's his best yet. If you’d like a taste of what’s to come, head to now where you can check out the album track ‘Around The Lake’. The track is set to an excellent sequence from a short film called '24hrs, Pavey Ark' directed by Mike Moloney & John Hooper which Paul is massively in to. SONIK KICKS features appearances from the likes of Noel Gallagher and Graham Coxon. The 14 tracks you can look forward to are: Green / The Attic / Kling I Klang / Sleep of the Serene / By the Waters / That Dangerous Age/ Study in Blue / Dragonfly / When Your Garden’s Overgrown / Around The Lake / Twilight / Drifters / Paperchase / Be Happy Children. With SONIK KICKS Paul Weller once again shakes up his palate and stirs his influences anew. He mixes pop art punch with soulful communication; jazzy explorations into psychedelia and dub with razor-sharp melodies and abstract soundscapes with clear-eyed forest-folk. Weller isn’t one to wait 20 years to be invited to perform his ‘classic’ album. He would rather do it here and now, there’s no need for nostalgia to play its part. So SONIK KICKS will be performed in full at The Roundhouse. Live dates as follows:
  • 18th - London Camden Roundhouse
  • 19th - London Camden Roundhouse
  • 20th - London Camden Roundhouse
  • 21st - London Camden Roundhouse

The Third World’s first superstar and arguably the most recognizable human being on the planet, reggae giant BOB MARLEY is celebrated this year in a film by award-winning director Kevin MacDonald (‘One Day In September’, ‘State Of Play’, ‘The Last King Of Scotland’, ‘Touching The Void’ and ‘Life In A Day’). ‘MARLEY’, which received a rapturous reception at its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival on Feb 12th, will be released in the UK on 20th April ’12 through Universal Pictures and features stunning live performances, intimate interviews with friends and family, and rare documentary footage, which tells the definitive story of the superstar who rose from the ghetto to become one of the greats of popular music before dying tragically young at the height of his fame. BOB MARLEY was born February 6, 1945 in rural St. Ann’s Parish, Jamaica, leaving home at 14 to pursue a music career in Kingston. A naturally gifted musician and singer he recorded his first track in 1962. In ’72 finding himself stranded in London with his band the Wailers he signed to Chris Blackwell’s Island Records and went on to enjoy global success and to put reggae on the music map. Many of his songs – which highlighted both Jamaica’s poverty and the spirituality of its people – have since become universal anthems. MARLEY died of cancer on May 11, 1981, aged 36.Says Kevin MacDonald: " MARLEY the film is an intimate, human portrait of the legendary singer . But as with any film about an artist - the main purpose has got to be to send the listener back to the music with a renewed appreciation for its beauty and significance. That's why I am so happy that Island are releasing this special collection of songs from and inspired by the movie." Says Chris Blackwell: “Kevin MacDonald has made a wonderful film about Marley. I think it will touch the hearts of many. It tells Bob’s story properly for the first time and you get a real sense of the man and his incredible talent. His spiritual message is as relevant now as it ever was and his music still resonates around the world.” The soundtrack to ‘MARLEY’ will be released on Island Records on 16th April ’12. It will be released in two formats: 2CD and a 3LP. It includes, for the first time on record, the 1978 One Love Peace concert performance of ‘Jammin’ during which Marley joined the hands of bitter political rivals Michael Manley and Edward Seaga, a gesture which went some way towards restoring peace to a strife-torn Jamaica. The tracklisting of the soundtrack, which follows the chronology of the film, is as follows:
  • 1) Corner Stone
  • 2) Judge Not
  • 3) Simmer Down
  • 4) Put It On
  • 5) Small Axe

Kid Cudi and Dot Da Genius are WZRD| New Album ‘WZRD’ Out March 5th

WZRD is the alternative to everything because no one is doing what we’re doing. This album is something the world needs to hear,” says Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi of his new genre-bending album with long-time collaborator Dot Da Genius. The album kicks off with a full-instrumental track called “The Arrival” and then continues to take the listener through a journey of intricate sounds, as well as a standout acoustic record called “EFFLICTIM.” Right from the start, it’s evident that this project is a bold move, even for one of the most innovative musicians of the last few years. Cudi and Dot have came a long way since 2006, when the duo would record late into the night in Dot’s family’s East New York apartment. Cudi met Dot through a mutual friend while working at Abercrombie & Fitch and the two began crafting a spacey-melodic sound that was different, and a breath of fresh air for the hip-hop game. Cudi would hum melodies as Dot would construct beats around them, and songs soon came to fruition. The process of recording came easy to Dot and Cudi, but the circumstances weren’t. After Cudi got evicted from his Staten Island apartment, it looked like he would have to move back to his hometown of Cleveland, and the budding musical chemistry he and Dot were developing would have to come to an end. But, despite knowing Cudi for just seven months, Dot’s parents saw the potential in the young tandem and let Cudi stay with them until he got back on his feet. The two kept at it in the Omishore basement, hoping their grind would one day pay off. After working together for a year, the most noteworthy result of one of Cudi’s hummed melodies and Dot’s producing prowess, “Day N’ Night,” was recorded. The innovative, out-of-the-box song would go on to sell over 2,000,000 digital downloads, receive two Grammy nominations, and peak on Billboard’s Hot 100 at No. 3 on May 9, 2009. It was the song that catapulted Kid Cudi into a household name, and changed everything for the duo. The pair, who liken their relationship to that of brothers rather than band mates, would continue to make music throughout the years, and in 2010 when they were adding guitar riffs to “Trapped In My Mind” a Dot-produced standout on Cudi’s sophomore album “Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager” it spawned the idea of a full rock album. Soon after, Cudi picked up the lead guitar and Dot would learn the bass. “The next day we went to Guitar Center and he bought a guitar and all the pieces. Since then he hasn’t parted with it. He’s been playing it non-stop and gradually getting better,” says Dot. They would record on Cudi’s tour bus and in Cudi’s house, purposely staying away from big-budget studios to capture an organic, garage band type of sound. No lessons, just hours exploring the instruments and learning as they went on. It was on the tour bus and in those makeshift studios that “WZRD” was formed. The duo studied bands like Nirvana, Pink Floyd, and even covered Lead Belly’s “Where Did You Sleep Last Night.” Like “Day N’ Night” Dot and Cudi once again created a sound that was far from cookie-cutter. As Cudi tells it, “We’re just trying to push the envelope and put people up on a new sound. Each band has their sound, and “WZRD” is something that’s very grassroots
