Slow Moving Millie Album "Renditions"

Welcome to the world of Amelia Warner: A multi-talented singer songwriter and pianist, Amelia writes and performs under the name Slow Moving Millie. Her emergence onto the music scene has been anything but ordinary. Originally immersed in an acting career from an early age, she discovered her talent for song writing by creating scores for films and quickly emerged into the exquisite talent she is today. Slow Moving Millie’s unconventional beginnings are echoed in her musical style. With a wide range of musical influences, (from Tom Waits and Nick Cave to Sigur Ros and Cat Power), her bittersweet musings, lyrical innocence and astute observations combine everyday experiences into a cinematic, moving, and unforgettable soundtrack. Having developed an impressive reputation and fan base from scores for film and TV, Amelia signed to Island Records and is currently is in the studio recording her debut album, (due for release next summer), with award winning producer Charlie Hugall (Florence and The Machine, Ellie Goulding). To prelude her forthcoming debut album, Amelia has covered a selection of favourite songs from her youth, entitled ‘Renditions’, which Island Records will be releasing in December. One of the standout tracks of this covers collection is The Smiths’ ‘Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want’. An intriguing and infectious mix of spacey atmospherics and haunting vocals ‘Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want’ not only encapsulates the distinctive sound of Slow Moving Millie perfectly, but has also made such an impact on all who have heard itthat it has been picked up by John Lewis for their 2011 Christmas advert. Slow Moving Millie’s compelling and distinct voice is sure to carve her a unique spot and could be the start of a wonderful adventure.

BBC's Sound of 2012 Ren Harvieu and debut single

21 year old Salford born singer Ren Harvieu, has her debut single “Through The Night” released on January 16th through Kid Gloves/Island Records. The single, a beautifully orchestrated slice of classic yearning taken from Ren’s forthcoming debut album, was originally set for release on July 4th this year until Ren suffered a terrible accident which left her with a broken back and not knowing whether she would ever walk again. Thankfully after a miraculous recovery, in less than three months, Ren is back on her feet and finally ready to release her first single. Ren Harvieu is brand new, just turned twenty one, realer than real ale. She sounds one way and looks and acts completely differently. No Brit School training, no showbiz connections, just a young girl with a truly remarkable voice and a set of songs that will stir your soul and break your heart. Ren sang in the odd local talent show, one called ‘Salford Superstar’ and attended what she calls the Primark version of a performing arts school where she was told she couldn’t sing. Through a chance meeting she recorded a couple of songs which the guy who was to become her manager heard while trawling through Myspace. Immediately realising he had come across a truly unique talent, he helped her record properly and soon after, on the strength of a handful of stunning songs, they had a deal with Island Records. Ren was set to release this song in July of this year when the accident happened. She’d just spent 2 glorious weeks in the US, where she had been invited to record a song with rapper Nas, who had heard and instantly fallen in love with Ren’s voice, made her first video and found out that she was to perform on the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury. Things couldn’t have looked any rosier. Then completely randomly, a guy, messing about at a party vaulted over a hedge, hurtled through the air, and landed on Ren’s spine. Two of her vertebrae broke straightaway and the next two months were spent in a hospital in North London, two hundred miles away from family and friends. One particularly bright moment during her stay in hospital came when she received a phone call from one of her childhood heroes, Johnny Marr. He had heard she wasn't well; he had also heard Through The Night, and had tweeted about this fabulous new singer from his hometown. He wanted to meet her, and make music with her, when she was ready to. They have just set a date to record together. Thankfully after two months of operations and intensive rehabilitation, Ren left hospital and is now finally set to let the world hear and see hear sing her wonderful songs.

Get ready for Encore's Brand New Single: Fun Last Night

Fresh from supporting Jessie J, Tinchy Stryder and N-Dubz on tour, hot new urban-pop sensations Encore will release their brand new single 'Fun Last Night' on February 13th via Island Records. 'Fun Last Night' is a melodic pop smash, featuring razor sharp rhymes, an electro bassline and smooth vocals, all topped off with an infectious anthemic chorus. Encore are made up of rapper Pierre (23) and vocalists Cairo (22) and Mark (22). Initially three solo artists who were already making waves in their own right on the urban music scene, the boys met at an open mic night in early 2009. Fast forward a few months and a preliminary collaboration session in the studio eventually led to the creation of Encore. Mark is an accomplished singer/ songwriter and has already written with acts such as Tinie Tempah and Chipmunk. Pierre comes from East London and went to school with Dizzee Rascal and Tinchy Stryder. Before he entered the band, Cairo was a name on the acoustic soul live scene and learnt his production skills from his musician father. An urban boy band with a unique flavour, the Encore sound stems from mixing varied musical styles including R&B, soul, dubstep, rap, grime and drum & bass. The 'Encore blend,' certainly showcases the group's musical diversity. Pierre remarks "we mix up a lot of sounds and write songs from our experiences. There is something for everybody". The band have been adding to their ever increasing pop resume throughout 2010 and have performed to over 60,000 this summer at Leeds Party in the Park, Wakestock Festival and Underage Festival. They have recently been traveling the country supporting Tinchy Stryder on his 2011 Rollercoaster tour. The band also released a new mixtape 'Bread & Butter' giving fans the opportunity to hear fresh material. The boys are currently working on their debut album, due out in 2012, with Wayne Hector (JLS, Pussycat Dolls), Red One (Lady GaGa, Jennifer Lopez), Chuck Harmony (Ne-Yo, Rihanna) and Ed Drewitt (Professor Green). After putting in the groundwork throughout 2011, Encore are here to grab their place in the spotlight in early 2012. Get ready for a standing ovation.

Florence and the Machine - Back with a Bang!

There’s no doubt about it –Florence Welch is back with an almighty bang having shipped a massive 1 MILLION albums worldwide in just two weeks since the release of her global smash of a follow up record, ‘Ceremonials’. Her widely acclaimed album immediately hit the #1 spot in the UK charts on release and crashed into the US Billboard Top, ranking her right up there with other British heavyweights Adele and Coldplay. ‘No Light, No Light’ is the epic and heart wrenching follow up to lead single ‘Shake It Out’ and will be released on January 16. Remixes come from the wondrous Dave Sitek and Breakage – his only remix of 2011. Part romantic battle-cry, part rain-lashed pledge of devotion, thrashed out over harps, tribal drums and interweaving harmonies, this was one of the first songs to be written for Ceremonials and set the tone for a record that acts as a showcase for its creators’ unabashed maximalism. “There are things I struggle to talk about face-to-face. I’m not a confrontational person. But the great thing about music is that it allows you to do talk about those things to a huge group of people. I think that if No Light, No Light is about anything, it’s about that. Isa [Summers, keyboards] had this intense gritty electronic beat and we built it from there.” See Florence perform ‘No Light ‘No Light’ on Later…With Jools Holland here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emogqey7DxQ
She headed out to America recently to perform on both Saturday Night Live and Good Morning America before her first promotional tour for ‘Ceremonials’, Florence and her almighty machine will return to the UK for a mammoth celebratory tour in 2012. More details to follow!

Easy Way Out. First single for Gotye

Hotly tipped Belgium born Melbourne based multi-instrumentalist and producer, Gotye, releases Easy Way Out, the first single to be taken from his forthcoming album Making Mirrors. 2012 looks set to be a very exciting year for Gotye (pronounced Gaulthier). As a worldwide swell of support heads towards the UK, Gotye will release, via Communion / Island Records, a 7” for lead single Easy Way Out – a short, sharp blast of acid-rock and the first single to be taken from the album Making Mirrors. Upon its online release in June, it was the video for the stunning track Somebody That I Used To Know that triggered an overwhelming response to this particular song worldwide. Just three weeks after Gotye posted the video on YouTube the song had received nearly four million hits (this number has now exceeded 11 million), topped the charts in 4 countries (Australia, Holland, Belgium and New Zealand) and made it to No.1 on the Hype Machine Twitter chart. Hear it once and you’ll be haunted by it for weeks. Gotye first found attention with his second album, 2006’s Like Drawing Blood. Influential Australian radio station Triple J named it their album of the year, as did iTunes on its release in the UK in 2008. In Britain, Like Drawing Blood became a cult hit while in the States, it made waves after Drew Barrymore fell in love with single Learnalilgivinanlovin’ and used it in several of her films. Ask Gotye about his new album Making Mirrors and he’ll speak not of songs, but of sounds. He’ll describe the various valves through which strings and choirs cycle on his Lowrey Cotillion, a vintage organ bought for 100 bucks in a second-hand shop that features on the record. Or how he constructed a bassline by sampling the Winton Musical Fence, an unlikely instrument he discovered in the outback of Queensland, Australia, comprised of five large metal strings attached to wooden fence posts and a resonant chamber.Listen to Making Mirrors and you’ll be drawn in by the details, transported to a world where every moment matters. This is pop at its most precise, but also electronic music at its most emotional. The record delves into dub, Detroit-era Motown soul, stadium-size politipop, synth-folk and world music on glorious, sprawling, huge-hearted songs. It will be released in the UK on 13th February 2012 through Communion / Island Records. Gotye launched Making Mirrors in Australia in August with a visually explosive gig at Sydney Opera House. Following a sold out Australian tour he has embarked on a worldwide tour and played two sold out shows in London – the first at Communion, St Stephen’s Church on 31st October and the second at Kings College on 1st November.

Following her tragic passing in July, some of the producers and musicians who worked closely with Amy Winehouse, among them Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi, spent time listening over the many recordings that Amy had made, before, during, and after the release of “Frank” and “Back To Black”. It was said by all who worked with Amy that she never sang or played a song the same way twice. It quickly became apparent to Salaam and Mark that they had a collection of songs that deserved to be heard, a collection of songs that were a fitting testament to Amy the artist and, as importantly, Amy their friend. “Lioness : Hidden Treasures“, the third album from Amy Winehouse, without question one of the most talented, original, and best loved artists to emerge in popular music for decades, will be released on December 5th through Island Records. The 12 song collection features previously unreleased tracks, alternative versions of existing classics as well as a couple of brand new Amy compositions. The album has been compiled by long-time musical partners Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson in close association with Amy’s family, management and record label Island Records. “Lioness : Hidden Treasures” proves a fitting tribute to the artist, the talent and the woman and serves as a reminder of Amy’s extraordinary powers as a songwriter, a singer and an interpreter of classics. Speaking about the album Amy’s father Mitch had this to say: “I spent so much time chasing after Amy, telling her off that I never realized what a true genius she was. It wasn’t until I sat down with the rest of the family and listened to this album that I fully appreciated the breadth of Amy’s talent, from jazz standards to hip hop songs, it really took my breath away. “Halftime”, I’d never heard before, is just incredibly beautiful. If the family had felt that this album wasn’t up to the standard of “Frank” and “Back To Black” we would never have agreed to release it and we believe it will stand as a fitting tribute to Amy ‘s musical legacy.”- Mitch Winehouse
A donation of £1 from the sale of each album in the UK will be donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which was launched on what would have been Amy’s 28th birthday September 14th 2011.
The full track-listing is as follows:
Our Day Will Come (Reggae Version)” - reggae re-working of classic 60’s Doo-Wop song produced by Salaam Remi. Recorded May 2002.
Between The Cheats” - new Amy composition recorded in London in May 2008 for potential inclusion on album three produced by Salaam Remi.
Tears Dry” - originally written by Amy as a ballad, this is the original version she recorded in November 2005 in Miami with Salaam. The later uptempo version appears on “Back To Black”.
Wake Up Alone” - the first song recorded for the “Back To Black” sessions. This is the one-take demo recorded in March 2006 by Paul O’Duffy.
Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” - Amy’s beautiful reading of the Carole King written Shirelles classic. Produced by Mark Ronson and featuring the Dap Kings with string arrangements by Chris Elliott who did all the strings for Mark’s tracks on “Back To Black”. Recorded in September 2004.
Valerie” - one of Amy’s jukebox favourites. This is the original slower tempo version of the Mark Ronson produced post “Back To Black” single. Recorded in December 2006.
Like Smoke” featuring NAS - Amy and Nas became really good friends after Amy name checked the New York rapper on “Back To Black’s” “Me & Mr Jones”. “Like Smoke” is finally Amy doing a song with one of her favourite artists. Produced by Salaam Remi. Recorded in May 2008.
The Girl From Ipanema” - the first song the 18 year old Amy sang when she first went to Miami to record with Salaam. Salaam remarked that “the way she re-interpreted this bossa nova classic made me realise that I was dealing with a very special talent. Her approach to the song was so young and fresh, it really inspired the rest of our sessions.” Recorded in May 2002.
Halftime” - Amy had talked to Ahmir ‘Questlove’ Thompson of the Roots about working together. “Halftime” is a song that Amy and Salaam had worked on since the Frank sessions. The result is beautiful. Recorded in August 2002.
Best Friends” - “Frank” era live set opener produced by Salaam Remi. Probably the first song that early Amy fans would have heard live. Recorded in February 2003.
Body & Soul” with Tony Bennett - cover of 30’s jazz standard with hero Tony Bennett. Recorded at Abbey Road Studios London in March 2011 and produced by Phil Ramone. Amy’s final studio recording.
A Song For You” - heartbreaking and emotional version of the Leon Russell classic made famous by Donny Hathaway. Hathaway was Amy’s all-time favourite artist and the song was recorded in one take, just Amy and her guitar, at her home in London during the spring of 2009 as she battled her demons. Produced by Salaam Remi.
"It was a thrill to record with Amy Winehouse and when you listen to the recording of Body And Soul, it is a testament to her artistic genius and her brilliance as one of the most honest musicians I have ever known." Tony Bennett
