MUST WATCH: 'When Bob Marley Came To Britain' BBC Two on Saturday 29 August

In the 1970s, Bob Marley rose from humble beginnings to become a global superstar. It was a journey that took place not just in his homeland of Jamaica, but also in Britain - the place he came to regard as his second home.

Featuring rarely-seen archive and interviews with people who met him, this documentary examines Marley’s special relationship with Britain and reveals how his presence helped influence British politics, culture and identity, during a time of massive social and civil unrest in the UK - and how his universal message of One Love and unity helped inspire a generation of Black British youth.

This documentary also takes a revealing look at how Marley spent his time while he was in Britain: the houses he lived in, football kickabouts in Battersea Park and visits to the UK’s growing Rastafarian community, including secret gigs in the North of England.

It was in Britain that Marley established himself as an international artist, recorded some of his most successful albums and performed some of his most memorable concerts.

The film features interviews with people who met and worked with Bob Marley in the UK - and whose lives were changed by meeting him - including photographer Dennis Morris, who accompanied Marley on tour; founding member of the reggae band Aswad, Brinsley Forde; The Cimarons’ Locksley Gishie; and filmmaker and BBC Radio 6 Music presenter Don Letts. Also interviewed is reggae legend Marcia Griffiths of Bob Marley’s vocal group The I-Threes.

There are also memories of the most important gigs he played in Britain, as told by those who were there to see it happen, including early Wailers gigs in small pubs and clubs when the band were still largely unknown, a now-legendary acoustic performance in the gym of a Peckham High School and a triumphant show at London Lyceum Theatre that helped propel Marley to global fame.

When Bob Marley Came to Britain is a Wise Owl Films production. The producers are Karen Gabay and Stuart Ramsay. It is directed by Stuart Ramsay. The Executive Producer is Mark Robinson. It is commissioned by Owen Courtney, Commissioning Executive, BBC Music.

Afrobeats Superstar TIWA SAVAGE Premieres New Single "Temptation" Feat. SAM SMITH

Nigerian-born singer/songwriter Tiwa Savage shares her new single “Temptation,” featuring multi-GRAMMY Award-winning pop phenomenon Sam Smith. Released via Island Records, “Temptation” is the latest single from Savage’s highly anticipated fourth studio album Celia, due out today, August 28th. The track is written by Tiwa Savage, Sam Smith, and Fireboy DML. It was recorded in Lagos, Nigeria and is produced by London.

Hailed as the “Queen of Afrobeats,” Savage is the most popular female artist in Africa, and arguably the most popular artist in Nigeria. Last month, the globally celebrated fashion icon offered the first glimpse at her forthcoming album with “Dangerous Love” — a laid-back and enchanting track built on her signature blend of R&B and Afrobeats. Marking her directorial debut, the song’s video finds Savage co-directing alongside Ibra Ake (Childish Gambino, BeyoncΓ©) for a stunning visual shot in Lagos, Nigeria.

Named after her mother, Celia showcases Savage’s extraordinary vocal talent and the incredible musical growth she’s experienced over the years. Born in Lagos, she grew up attending church with her parents and soon developed a love for performing, then relocated to London with her family at the age of 11. At the age of 16, she found herself singing backing vocals for George Michael — a turn of events that quickly led to working with the likes of Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Emma Bunton, and Blu Cantrell.

Despite having already completed a degree in business administration at the University of Kent, Savage was determined to pursue music and landed a scholarship at the esteemed Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Although she later moved New York City and linked up with various producers and industry professionals, she eventually returned to Nigeria (a move partly motivated by the lack of true female superstars in her home country). In 2019, she signed an exclusive recording contract with Universal Records, releasing her first global single “49-99” under Motown Records that summer. By the following spring, Savage had graced the cover of Billboard magazine’s first issue devoted entirely to Africa, alongside Afrobeat superstars Davido and Mr Eazi.

Through the years, Savage’s fearlessness in merging eclectic genres has more than paid off, earning her an abundance of awards and accolades. To that end, she made history in 2018 by becoming the first female to win the MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act. She’s since garnered four Channel O Music Video Award nominations, five World Music Award nominations, and a multitude of nominations from the MTV Africa Music Awards, BET Awards, MOBO Awards, and many more. She’s also undertaken a number of philanthropic endeavors, supporting several youth engagement organizations and breast-cancer-screening projects across Nigeria and beyond. Additionally, Savage is very active in #JusticeForUwa, loudly voicing her disgust at the rape of a young girl in a church in Nigeria and creating an Instagram account where rape victims can speak out.

ABOUT SAM SMITH Since the release of their 2014 debut album In The Lonely Hour, Sam Smith has sold over 25 million adjusted albums worldwide, in addition to winning four GRAMMY Awards®, an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and three BRIT Awards. Arriving in 2017, their sophomore effort The Thrill Of It All debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and topped the charts in the U.K., Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Belgium. Awarded four stars by Rolling Stone, the album included the hit single “Too Good at Goodbyes,” which recently became Smith’s second song to receive over a billion streams on Spotify, after the nine-times-platinum “Stay With Me.” In the last year alone, Smith has delivered a quintet of smash singles, including “Dancing with a Stranger” — a chart-topping collaboration with Normani that’s sold more than 13 million units and racked up over 2.5 billion streams worldwide. From there, Smith released “How Do You Sleep?” (which has now amassed over 8 million units and 1.5 billion global streams), “To Die For” (whose video has surpassed 35 million video views), and the powerful slice of pop perfection “I’m Ready” with Demi Lovato (set to appear on Smith’s forthcoming third studio album). BENEE drops summer bop 'Snail' and official video for 'Night Garden' Feat. Kenny Beats & Bakar

New Zealand's pop sensation BENEE unveils her new single "Snail" today, following the release of "Night Garden" feat. Kenny Beats & Bakar. Written and recorded with Josh Fountain shortly after New Zealand opened up from lockdown, BENEE was inspired to write the song after spending weeks in isolation. She says, "When we were in lockdown, I was fascinated by snails. There wasn't really a lot to be doing, so I would spend a lot of time outside looking at snails and would think about how they're doing their own little thing and they're all free. I just played around with the idea of being kind of like a snail and how I come out in the rain. Being stuck inside because of COVID, it's kind of my lockdown song."

"Snail" follows BENEE's recently released enchanting single "Night Garden" feat. Kenny Beats & Bakar, which has been praised by press across the globe, including Billboard, E! Online, Clash, Coup De Main, DIY, The FADER, HYPEBEAST, NME, Stereogum, The Sunday Times, Teen Vogue, UPROXX and many more. BENEE performed a stunning, stripped-back version of the song for MTV PUSH—watch it here.

"Supalonely" feat. Gus Dapperton, which is now Certified Platinum in the U.S. in addition to seven other countries including New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Mexico and more, has amassed over 1.7 billion streams worldwide and is currently climbing up the U.S. Top 40 Radio Chart and sitting at #8 this week.

Earlier this summer, Apple Music announced BENEE as the newest Up Next artist, as she made history as Apple Music's first Up Next artist from New Zealand. BENEE also made her U.S. television debut performing "Supalonely" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and she was selected as MTV's PUSH Artist for the month of June.

ABOUT BENEE From her hometown in Auckland, New Zealand, breakthrough popstar Stella Bennett, aka BENEE, remains unphased, unchanged and almost impervious to the cataclysmic success coming her way since releasing her debut EP, FIRE ON MARZZ, last summer. Already her tale is one of eye-watering statistics and achievements. Her story is international and expanding on the hour, across modern and traditional platforms. Her audience seems endless. BENEE, however, remains easygoing, centered and—most importantly—herself. It's just over six months since the release of her second EP of 2019, STELLA & STEVE, garnered knockout reviews. Breakthrough track "Supalonely" is a slice of upbeat and original pop—like its creator, a little exotic and cheerfully weird. The song hits like a ray of sunshine, jammed to the hilt with personality and punctuated by BENEE's verbal tics. BENEE's music runs the gamut of everything pop can be in 2020 and is filled with her quirks in the experimental indie sounds and the cartoon-ish sprawl of her lyrical imagery. Her fans have a naturally intimate connection with her deceptively easy-going pop and that thing she still loves to call her "BENEE-VISION." "From Supalonely to superstardom" – NME

NOISY Release New Single, 'PUT A RECORD ON'

Having spent the duration of lockdown in their home studio in Worthing, Noisy are well and truly ready to emerge from their seaside town with new records and a new lust for life. Following on from their latest video 'Where's Your Head?', supported and loved by BBC Radio 1's Jack Saunders, comes their new track 'Put a Record On' which highlights their vibrant get-up-and-go attitude towards life, fuelled by good vibes music even when it seems like the world is against them.

"Put a record on is solely about music getting you through a hard time. You know them ones when you wake up in the morning and you're not feeling yourself, you've already got it in your head that today is going to be a bad day. Then you put your favourite song on and all of a sudden you've got a new lease of life, a brand new mind set. Today is going to be a good day"– Cody

Earlier this year, the trio headlined a sold-out Camden Assembly, following the release of their debut EP 'Press Space To Play', which featured single 'Bring The Drums Back', an ode to homegrown dance styles in the UK. This paved way to a great deal of opportunities including an invitation to perform at the prestigious Abbey Road studios this month for the Barclaycard Share the Stage Series alongside artists such as Lewis Capaldi, Easy Life, Mabel and Celeste, just to name a few. The band are so eager perform live again and join YungBlud on his Spring UK tour, with their first date confirmed on March 8th, 2021 at Nottingham Rock City.

Breaking out from Worthing's pubs and skateparks with a hybrid of hooks" – DORK
"With a sound fuelled by a radioactive immediacy at its core, the band are not ones accustomed to resting on their laurels" - LOBF

THEWORLDNOISY.COM......Comprised of singer Cody, guitarist Connor and producer Spencer, the band is the culmination of several years of hanging out at skateparks. They've been Noisy for the past year and a half, an 18-month period that's seen them build a makeshift studio in Spencer's house and put it to good use: coming up with a name, and then a suitably clamorous sound to follow. They take the spin-the-bottle sensibility of the playlist generation and make something new entirely: the sound of hip hop, D&B, and the eternal swagger of the Happy Mondays rolled into one intoxicating whole. To Noisy's quote, the band are for all the Friday guys, for all 20-somethings smashing it on a weekend, spending five days aching, and then getting out and doing it again.
