KAILEE MORGUE REVEALS THE VIDEO FOR HER LATEST SINGLE "SIREN"

A few weeks ago, Kailee Morgue headed up NYLON's Soundcheck. Now, she's premiering the video to her track "Siren" exclusively with NYLON.

Morgue is a relative newcomer, first popping on our radars when she created a video for her song "Medusa" in her own bedroom, garnering 100,000 likes in a single night. "Siren" is the follow-up in which Morgue gets to play the villain. "The Greek mythology references picks up where my first single 'Medusa' left off," she explains. "But this one has a much more sinister tone. The balance between lofty vocal and the sexy, unsettling instrumental mirrors the temptation to do something forbidden or ill-advised."

"Siren," which premiered on BBC Radio 1's Best New Pop, arrives hot on the heels of Morgue's viral hits, "Do You Feel This Way" (feat. Whethan), "F**k U" and last year's breakout track, "Medusa," which catapulted her into an overnight success after she posted a live performance of the song on Twitter. "Medusa" became the title track from her debut EP, which was released last autumn.

The visuals, from start to finish, were all Morgue's vision. "This is the first music video that I completely thought up the concept for and directed myself", she says. "I modernized the story of the siren, but still wanted to keep the underwater feel." The girl knows exactly what she wants, and made sure she got it (and the results are incredible). "While the video as a whole is dark and sexy," Morgue adds, "I also wanted to include scenes where the colors are lighter to give you a sense of innocence and sympathy for this siren." Morgue also came up with the set design, sourced the wardrobes and props, and found and hired a local video team in her hometown of Phoenix, AZ.

With ever-changing hair colour and DIY tattoos, the anime-obsessed 20-year-old Phoenix-based gothic pop siren, Kailee Morgue, casts a sonic spell with her music. A self-described "introvert" and the second oldest of six kids, she found solace in the sounds of fellow sonic sorceresses, such as Stevie Nicks and Gwen Stefani, as well as bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and more. By the age of ten, she picked up her first guitar, began quietly writing songs before eventually posting tracks on Soundcloud.
