New Lioness Records single for Dionne Bromfield
“AIN’T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH” Release date 21st December
13 year old London-born soul singer Dionne Bromfield, whose sensational debut TV performance on Strictly Come Dancing introduced her as an exciting new talent, has her new Lioness Records single, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” released on December 21st. The single is a double A-side with Dionne’s festive rendition of Christmas classic “I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus”.
Dionne is the first signing to five time Grammy winner Amy Winehouse’s brand new label Lioness Records, and the single is taken from her recently releaSed debut album “Introducing Dionne Bromfield”.
Speaking about Dionne Amy says, “The first time I heard Dionne sing, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing… such an amazing voice from such a young girl. I’m just so proud of her. I’m very lucky to have a record label. I’ve got all these people that I love, that are really talented – and Dionne is my number one”.
It was at the age of ten that Dionne started to think seriously about singing, after an aunt recognised her potential and referred her to a professional vocal coach. A year later she sang for Amy for the first time and Amy decided there and then that when she started up her own label, Dionne would be her first artist. Citing Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin as well as contemporary artists like Ne-Yo and Beyonce, as influences Dionne quickly decided that she wanted to “keep it soul”.
The album features covers of 12 classic songs that reflect her love of vintage soul music and ‘60s girl groups. Tracks include Mama Said, Motown anthem Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, which Dionne has recorded as a duet with fellow Lioness artist Zalon, Foolish Little Girl, originally a hit for The Shirelles in 1963, and the classic Millie no. 1 hit from 1964, My Boy Lollipop. In fact Dionne first came across this song when she saw the Spice Girls movie Spiceworld.
“I thought it was a good song,” she says, “but when I heard Millie’s version I thought, this is the proper one. And Amy said, ‘You’ve got to do it – it’s my favourite tune! I’m really happy with my album,” Dionne says, “I love these songs, and I’m really excited about going out and singing them. Once you’re on a stage, it’s like you’re home.”
