Codeine Velvet Club UK Dates with John Mayer

Codeine Velvet Club, the sensational new band featuring chief Fratelli Jon Lawler and Glasgow chanteuse Lou Hickey, have been confirmed as special guests on the forthcoming UK shows by US star John Mayer. The dates are as follows:
JANUARY
15   MANCHESTER APOLLO
16   GLASGOW ACADEMY
18   LONDON HAMMERSMITH APOLLO
19   WOLVERHAMPTON CIVIC
Codeine Velvet Club is a new musical collaboration that celebrates Jon Lawler and Lou Hickey’s shared love of ’60s girl-boy duets, dramatic orchestral pop, and dark post-war Hollywood romanticism. They have just released their eponymously titled debut album.
WHAT THE PAPERS SAY
“Here’s a surprising perky pop rock tonic for the new year….joyously jaunty boy/girl harmonies shot through with a Glasgow brogue and swept along with 1960s-styled orchestral arrangements.  The tunes offer a blend of showy romance and rueful humour and the tone is a sweet diversion… they have a dashing panache.” METRO 4 Jan ‘10
“The Hottest Downloads – Codeine Velvet Club: ‘Hollywood’ - Scabrous glam-rock perfection from The Fratellis’ Jon Lawler.” SUNDAY TIMES 3 Jan ‘10
“…a set of  boy-girl duets referencing Lee & Nancy, John Barry, Dick Dale and The Last Shadow Puppets….sounds sassy…” THE INDEPENDENT 2 Jan ‘10
“…chief Fratelli Jon Lawler…teaming up with singer Lou Hickey, and delivering a fine record inspired by brassy show tunes, gothic blues and sweeping orchestral pop.  There’s wit and personality here (and) some notable successes, the saturated pop of “Hollywood” and woozy romance of “Nevada” among them.” THE OBSERVER 20 Dec ‘09
“With his rough bad-boy edges smoothed off by the velvet hand of Glasgow songwriter Lou Hickey, this camply glamorous, jazzy boy-girl duet is not so much ‘Creepin’ Up The Backstairs’ as swishing down the red-carpeted grand staircase.” NME 7 Nov ‘09
