Rebirth for Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne, the undisputed hottest rapper in the world, who recently slayed London audiences with three sold out shows at the Hammersmith Apollo, follows his 4 x Grammy winning multi-platinum masterpiece “Tha Carter III” with the release on February 1st of “Rebirth”, the most eagerly anticipated hip hop record in years. 2010 is proving a boon for Lil Wayne fans with the release on January 25th of Young Money Entertainment’s first release “We Are Young Money”, featuring all the hotly tipped artists on Weezy’s label including Drake and Nicki Minaj. A game-changing artist, Dwanye Michael Carter, Jr., aka Weezy F Baby, is one of the most prolific artists in music. Since establishing himself with the Hot Boys and his early solo albums, he became best known for the astonishing amount of music he released whether it be his acclaimed mixtapes, or special guest features on other artists work. The sheer breath, quality and volume of music featuring the New Orleans born rapper, made it difficult to argue against his self-proclaimed title of World’s Greatest Rapper. His position at the very top of the hip hop game was cemented last year. The year 2008 belonged to Lil Wayne, it was the year Tha Carter III entered the US Billboard chart at no. 1 selling over 1 million copies in its first week. It was the year Wayne was nominated for 8 Grammy’s, more nominations than any other artist including Coldplay and Jay-Z, and took home 4. It was the year he was named MTV Man of the Year, the year he created and released the biggest selling, most critically acclaimed, album in America across any genre, and the year where he went from Hip Hop Messiah to Global superstar. Since the success of Tha Carter III, Wayne has launched his own record label, Young Money Records and already one of his first signings the Canadian born rapper Drake, whose single “Best I Ever Had” topped the US charts for 5 weeks, is being talked about as THE most exciting new voice in hip hop.
