“The Jackson Sessions”, the debut ep from Lauren Pritchard & Live Dates

“The Jackson Sessions”, the debut ep from Lauren Pritchard, a new artist with a remarkable voice and a rare song-writing talent to match, will be released on May 3rd through Island Records. The EP begins with the captivating “When The Night Kills The Day”. Written by Lauren and Ed Harcourt, the song features Marcus and Ted from Mumford & Sons who were heard and early version and loved the song so much they ended up producing it, their first independent production. The remaining three songs on the EP, “Stuck”, “No Way” and “Bad Time To Fall”, were produced by Eg White, who has produced the bulk of 22 year old Lauren’s debut album “Wasted In Jackson”.  Lauren Pritchard was born and raised in Jackson Tennessee, your archetypal deep south small town USA. She’d always sung and played piano from an early age and when she reached her teens felt the need to move away from her comfortable family surroundings and forge a life in music, somewhere new. At the age of 16, like many young Americans, she headed, alone, to LA. She sang in a reggae band, fell in love, the relationship ended, ran out of money and was on the verge of heading back to Jackson when the mother of Riley, one of her close friends, insisted she move in with them. Riley’s mum is Lisa Marie Presley. Newly invigorated, Lauren lived with them for 8 months during which time she landed a starring role in the highly acclaimed, hard-hitting contemporary musical ‘Spring Awakening’. The show hit the big-time and Lauren moved to New York where she performed on Broadway for two years. With the phenomenal success of “Spring Awakening” and word spreading through New York music business circles about the girl with the incredible voice, Lauren landed a record deal. That partnership didn’t work out so well either and they soon went their separate ways. However as Lauren was finding out as one door closes another opens. During her time at the label she was introduced to the work of Ivor Novello-winning songwriter Eg White. White had heard some of Lauren’s demos and asked to meet her. After a few trips to London, Lauren packed her suitcase and headed off, alone again, to her third big city. Her collaborations with Eg really started producing some amazing songs and before long word was getting out that there was a really special talent emerging who was unsigned with a catalogue of incredible songs. Lauren signed with Island Records in spring this year. The past year has seen Lauren and Eg making the album ”Wasted In Jackson” with some input from Ed Hardcourt and of course Marcus and Ted from Mumford & Sons. Lauren has come a long way in her short years to be here. The hard showbiz lessons learnt during her graft on the stage in New York and on the LA bar circuit - and in the music biz pop factory - have stood her in great stead. And so have her experiences in her small-town hometown.
